I know he's young, and is growing, developing and all that... but is it possible that Greedy is our 4th best corner this Sunday?

Its tough. Mitch has been very under rated, solid corner. Greedy shows a ton of promise but makes rookie mistakes. But we havent seen greedy yet, I do expect allot of improvement, better staff, a year to watch film and grow, etc. I will say Mitch played more consistent and a bit better overall this year than Greedy played overall last year. But between scheme and maturity, i expect Greedy to be better, at least our 3rd best corner if not 2nd,

That said, who the fuck knows, as the saying goes.... there is a reason why we play the games, lol

It's weird that you keep calling Terrence Mitchell "Mitch."

My NFL brain auto-completes "Mitch" with "Trubisky"

Due to rust, and growing pains of being a second year player, I think it's entirely possible that Greedy performs worse than both KJ and Terrence Mitchell. But, it's not like that should factor in heavily. The kid needs to get on the field as our #2 and gain experience.

It's just crazy to think that, last week, CB was a giant problem for us. This week, a kid who's a starter for a lot of teams might be our #4

You're spot-on that Mitchell is underrated. The dude has been nothing but a reliable pro for us. He was a great pickup.

I dont think corner was a huge issue, i think our huge issue was safety play and linebacker play. We really came into this year counting heavily on 2 rookies and we lost one for the year before the first game. We really never filled the voids at linebacker, so any injury there makes a suspect unity even more suspect.

Mack might make a difference, he didnt overly impress me last year, sometimes he was very solid in coverage, sometimes he seemed lost. His tackling is slightly better than i was when i played in high school, lol...no not a compliment.

Someone earlier in the thread who deserves credit mentioned brining in Mitchel instead of a 3rd safety and i would agree. It will make us susceptible to the run especially when they break the 4 yard mark, but if your safety is the main force behind stopping the run you have big issues in your front 7.

I'm not a huge Wilson fan, but he's pretty clearly a better coverage linebacker than Goodson or Takitaki, so he should be able help immediately with that provided he has all of his mobility coming off the knee.

I’m not super convinced Greedy is actually better than Mitchell at the moment, but Johnson should be a massive upgrade on T. Thomas who played way more than he should in the first two games.

If standing in a hole and lowering your helmet to take a hit on the crown of your head is Takitaki's highlight, then jesus... I've been calling him a bust since Dorsey drafted him and maybe I'm too high on him.

Same here. I watched it twice and came away thinking "is that it?"

I think the current view of Greedy is a bit influenced by pre-draft slotting about where he "should" go, and the belief that we got a steal when he fell. Last year, his play looked like he lacked focus/intensity. More of a "physical gifts" guy than a guy with natural football instincts. I'm obviously not a scout or anything, so it's just eyeballing. I just don't see a great corner of the future when I see him play.

I remember @Randolphkeys and a couple others were pretty critical of the Takitaki selection’s rationale: it seemed Eliot Wolfe and Highsmith fell in love with him after Wisconsin played BYU. There didn’t seem to be a body of work — just a couple games in which he was particularly active; and even still, you could argue he wasn’t “dominant” against Wiscy.

Looks like those concerns were warranted. Dude just doesn’t look like he’ll be any sort of difference maker at any point.

The missed tackles are frustrating. I know Mixon is shifty and hard to bring down, but when have we ever seen Takitaki blow someone up in the backfield?

Eliot Wolfe is a scout I thought really highly of when he was in Green Bay, but eventually my understanding is that he was better at copying his father's structure than actually scouting. Both the Austin Corbett and Takitaki picks were players he personally scouted, and we can all agree one of them was a bust. Once he made the call on Takitaki I was very concerned. Let's see if I eat crow on this one when he develops more. I don't like the fact that he was a pass rusher who is starting from scratch as a pass defender. BJ Goodson is out there in passing situations because Takitaki isn't even close to handling zone coverage.

Hopefully getting Greedy back gives us the ability to play Mitchell in other places and maybe take a safety or a linebacker off the field. At this point they need to find our best 11 and try to play them. Mitchell should be one of our best 11 on defense.
