2020 Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Articles are old but it tells you how the defense improved under Bickerstaff.

The team was 17th in defensive rating under Bickerstaff(11 games).

I'm reading that article on Bickerstaff's defense. Now don't get me wrong, I like Bickerstaff, but the Cavs defense also improved significantly with the addition of Drummond. If you notice, of the 5 lineups listed in the article, by far and away the two best lineups included Drummond. Say what you want about Drummond's BBIQ, he improves teams' defensive ratings with his rebounding, steals and blocks.

According to John Hollinger of The Athletic, the Boston Celtics could look to ship Enes Kanter, Vincent Poirier and a first-round draft pick for Nance.

Would you make that deal....

Hell yeah. Hayward is your veteran player that starts at SF and helps us make a playoff push. He and Love would play well off of each other. Cavs have been had interest in him and he wants a larger role than what he has in BOS.

Cavs had interest in Langford during the draft and rumors were that we were going to trade up and get him.

Take #14 and maybe you can package it with #5 and move up a spot or 2 if a guy you really want like Wiseman or Deni is there and you can move up and draft them.

Nance makes a lot of sense for BOS. Hayward is off the books next year too. The Cavs should make this deal. I think it's fair value for BOS to give up for Nance. Langford isn't playing and they aren't going to have a lot of minutes for a #14 pick next season. Hayward obviously isn't in their long term plans and Nance probably has a bigger impact on their team than Hayward does.

Hard to trade Larry. I like him so much, and I think he really made a leap last year, especially feeling comfy on the perimeter.

Hayward is not the same player, and I am not sure he can play big minutes ever again.

I like Langford a little, might be worth it. The decision on what to pay Hayward is tough. Hard to believe he is just 2 years younger than Love.

He might be 2 years from being done is what I am worried about.

No would not make any trade with Boston unless it is completely lopsided in the cavs favor given Boston history ending up with the best end of deals.

Secondly on proposed trade with Haywood and 2 others, I don't t believe you can trade Nance's salary for 40m in salary.

Extra sweeteners should involve the mavs 2021st and/or mavs 2023 1st which Boston owns.

Hayward could be a 20 PPG scorer on this team next season. He's a legit SF too. He's an expiring so I'm not trippin on what to pay him.

The trade I posted works under the cap.

Great column - thanks for linking it. The Cavs should be fun to watch this year using a spread out offense and running plays through their bigs with off-ball motion and "live cuts" instead of every play being a boring pick and roll. It actually sounds more like what Bielien wanted to do.

I like the idea of adding a first round pick, but man, we'd be a mortal lock to 3-peat as worst defensive team in the NBA :chuckle:
