Wirfs and Wills both look like they are going to be great linemen in the NFL, but how many commercials has Wirf's been in this year? Hmmmmm?

Anderew Thomas. The Giants.. Sheees.. ** Slow Head Shake *** I want to joke about their front office, but man, I feel too much for Daniel Jones. He deserved better.
I don't think Andrew Thomas is that bad.

I think the problem is more Jones than the players around him. The dude is the worst starting QB in the NFL.

Man, what’s all the criticism of this kid? Y’all act like we should have or had a hall of fame LT to compare him to.
What criticism? This thread has been pretty much just heaping praise at him. People can’t post a tweet of a bad play when someone said they didn’t remember him having a bad play?

Wills hasn't graded well on PFF this entire year. But this was an especially bad game with all the penalties.

So he’s been bad this year? Thought that wasn’t the case.

I haven’t paid much attention to Wills, but noticed he has become somewhat polarizing with some claiming he’s been great and some claiming he’s been bad

so today I pretty extensively watched him and he was pretty bad even outside of just the penalties

now as Browns fans we have been spoiled over the years with atrocious line play from the weak link on the lines. You don’t even have to be paying any attention to Oniel Cousins or Cam Erving to realize just how bad at football they are. They get repeatedly whipped so bad that you can’t help but notice. Wills isn’t even in that galaxy so it makes it so you need to actually focus on him to see how he’s doing

like I said I haven’t been keying in on him much this year and have been mostly happy I don’t hear his name called often. But today he looked overmatched and lost out there

He has been... less good than everyone has said, IMO. He has had some costly penalties and his blocking has been less than stellar.

With that said, he is a rookie that switched sides to play a difficult position. Tackles in the NFL often.l take some years to truly shine. His technique is awesome and probably the best part, he just makes errors far more often than we want. Still a bright future, but not as good currently as we have been led to believe IMO.

I was one of the highest people on Wills during the draft process.

I think his play this year has been less than the praise people have been heaping on him so far. That's not to say he's bad--but I've seen him as REALLY struggling with the flip from RT to LT in a way I didn't see coming. I usually write off a side flip like that as a non-factor, but Wills legitimately looks stiff to me at LT, whereas last year at Alabama, I thought his agility was his standout trait.

His feet are still lightning quick getting out of his stance, and he still knows what to do with his hands, so he's been effective. But we're talking about a kid who has the gifts to be the best tackle in football, and right now it looks like he's still trying to break muscle memory and train his body to be fluid at LT.

I've seen a lot of guys get by him--which is probably only noticeable because we're used to Joe Thomas, arguably the greatest pass protecting tackle in the history of football, manning that position. On the bright side, I can't remember a straight whiff from Wills, but on the downside, there have been lots of times where he's been beaten pretty quickly. On these times where he's beaten, either Baker does something to negate the impact (get the ball out, or move) or Wills uses his athleticism to recover and sort of chip block the guy behind where Baker is standing.

The kid's great. He has the ability to be the best tackle in football. He's just having a rough first year making the switch from RT to LT. That's just my eye though.

He has all the tools to be elite. I am confident that Callahan will turn his run blocking around.

Agreed. I know absolutely nothing about OL technique, but to my dumb ass fan brain I would think pass blocking would be more difficult.

Just as a guess....

I suspect keeping Baker upright was impressed upon all the OL as being their most important task. So, Jedrick likely worked on his stance, balance, etc., so as to be as well set-up for pass blocking as possible. The problem is that you don't want your stance to give away what the play is going to be, so you have to keep your stance as consistent as possible. Given that he's a converted right tackle who didn't have a preseason/offseason, he may be locked (for now) into a stance/balance that is ideal for pass blocking, but less good at helping him fire off the line for run blocking. You'd hope that as time goes on, and especially with a full offseason, he may be able to work on that stance so as to be better able to fire off the line for running plays, while still being able to set properly for pass protection.

Anyone have any insight as to how he has been “grading” over the past couple weeks or so? Appreciate anything in advance.
