Do you re-sign Andre Drummond? How much?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Did you guys actually watch the game last night? As Cavs fans, did it not give you some joy to watch a 2OT win? Are you not the least bit surprised that the Cavs are 2-0?

Or do you just have some preconceived notion that you hate Drummond no matter what?

I'm guessing that was the best game the Cavs have played in 3 years.

he also filled it up with 21 shots (missed 14) and 4 turnovers.

I’m with you. I feel like this is as good of a fan, statically, as you can hope for from him, and I routinely felt like the Cavs were better with McGee on the floor.

Drummond is not someone to give a significant chunk of cap space to, especially when he’s regularly playing outside himself.

agreed entirely thought we looked way better with Javale, as for people saying we’re winning games because of Drummond I think more of the credit is due to the improved play of Cedi and Garland, replace Drummond with Javale or any big rim protector and we’d have a similar result

Perfect example of how flawed +\- is as a star. Drummond was somehow +10 last night and Cedi was -12. And yet... while his defense was quite good, offensively he was such just so painful to watch

3 huge issues

He doesn't screen at all. Always slips. What's the point of that? Leaving points on the floor for the guards and himself as a roller.

Shooting off the move is something he is totally incapable of. He slipped it up trying to draw a foul. A 65% freethrower or whatever he is has no business trying to draw fouls without attempting a make. This is a small part of a larger problem shot selection

All his ballhandling is bad. His passing is good, do that instead.

Doesn't screen but pouts when Sexton doesn't look his way.

You must have been watching another game. In this game, McGee fouled out in 14 minutes.

Who said anything about not enjoying the win?

Drummond has been bad the first two games. That’s not really debatable, right?

I know he’s usually better than this, but he’s hurting the team more than helping, in my opinion.

Drummond has always been controversial. But he is part of a team with some fight in em.. I understand the frustration with misses and turnovers low, but I think this is more about the young guys learning to play with him, and visa versa. He is unlike any asset they have had before.

I am looking at other teams trying to make it with 6'9 240 centers, and thinking we are way better off.. Do I want to Max Andre? No. But I wouldn't mind him remaining a chunk of cap.

I think Love would have to play much better to think he should remain in the mix.. but the rust is understandable.. I hope he plays his way back to form..

Drummond was 1-for-9 in the first half with a couple of turnovers. He was clearly overamped about returning to Detroit for the first time. Totally understandable. In the second half he was 6-for-12 and made some huge defensive stops, including forcing two turnovers on Rose in crunch time. He also was 5-for-6 on free throws in the 4th quarter to send the game into OT. For the game he had 5 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks, not to mention the 16 rebounds and altered shots.

He needs to do a better job of converting his jump hooks or passing out of the low post, but that will come.

Yes - I watched every minute.

Yes - I had a ton of fun watching the game outside that one ugly second half stretch.

Yes and no - the Cavs being 2-0 against Charlotte and Detroit wasn’t exactly unthinkable, but it’s a sign of progress, which is great.

Not no matter what, but when the eye test through two games confirms my feelings of him as a player to this point in his career, I’m going to point it out in the Andre Drummond thread.

Idk where it ranks in the past three years, but this was a great game to watch, and easily the best game of Garland’s career. Being a night where Sexton also put up 30 makes it even sweeter. Great win.

You can criticize Drummond and be a fan and excited about the win and team. They are not mutually exclusive ideas or thoughts.

Its tough. He honestly played great defense. He forced his offense and was just chucking bricks in order to draw fouls. If he was aiming on those shots, we are in trouble.

If he hadn't taken any shots in the first half, the Cavs would have crushed them in regulation.

He also got the team to overtime with foul shots on post ups. Yikes. That is bad offense. I think I prefer any shot in Sexton's arsenal over relying on Drummond post up shots/foul shots.

He controlled the boards for sure, and Blake basically didn't attempt a shot inside all night, he wanted no part of it.

He'll have better games than this, I do think he was amped up. He also has no idea what his limitations as an offensive player are

Ya know, him forcing it on offense so regularly wouldn't be so bad if he didn't openly bitch and mope the times Sexton/Garland don't get him the ball.

He was honestly getting touches like prime fucking Shaq in the hack-a-shaq days. And he was STILL getting frustrated the one outta ten times he wouldn't get the ball. That shit HAS to stop.

Drummond just needs time to figure out how to incorportate his skill set with the rest of the team. We definitely need his defense, shot blocking, and rebounding. With all the scorers we have there is not as much a need for his offense and he should be more selective in his shot selection.

Right now he is dribbling too much in the paint, IMO. Last night he dribbled the ball off his leg out of bounds two times when going to his left. If he's going to dribble in traffic he needs to get better and only dribble one or two times to get his feet set for the shot.

He also needs better awareness of perimeter defenders dropping down to poke the ball away as he's backing in. In that case he needs to kick it out to the perimeter before he gets stripped.

He's really doing some great things defensively and on the boards, though. Tonight he gets to bang with Embiid and Dewey after playing 44 minutes last night. That will be a challenge.

I didn't see any bitching and moping. I did see five assists, though.
