Do you re-sign Andre Drummond? How much?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It was frustrating to watch him not help on the PnRs which allowed Rozier to go off.

I like the hook shots he takes in the paint or him rolling to the basket where our guards find him underneath.

I’ll see how he does as the season goes on as it is just one game.

This is me probably going out on a limb, but perhaps he sees guys with similar physical gifts like Durant, Giannis, Davis being superstars and is telling himself "Hey, if they can play like that, maybe I can too!" It's like a mix of delusions of grandeur, jealously, desire to get paid for said feelings, and unrealistic expectations... He's trying to do more than he's capable of with long distance passes, dribbling the ball for the fast break, taking guys off the dribble, shooting threes out of the play set, etc. It's also bringing down his percentages and making it hard to run plays with him.

Now don't get me wrong, if he did play within his limits and play the way he's capable of, he'd still be an all-star caliber of talent. Bullying guys down low, boxing out, and crowding the opponents so they can't get easy shots at the rim is automatically worth 15+ points, 15+ rebounds, and 2+ blocks. And there are plenty of guys that had those same physical gifts that could play within their limits just fine. But not Drummond. He wants more. Just like Dwight used to do until he realized that it wouldn't work while trying to win a title.

In the meantime, I guess he's still the starter by default. He has talent. And he's not completely basketball stupid like McGee. But I don't know how it'll play out at all to this point. Let the coaching staff figure that out...

I think you are definitely onto something. I don't think Drummond compares himself to players like Giannis and Durant. However, I do think he compares himself to Embiid, KAT and Blake Griffin, and wants to add more offense to his game.

I don't really object to Drummond taking more shots. I think his FG% is fine.

What I object to is when he puts the ball on the floor and tries to bully his way to the basket. That's when he turns the ball over. He had 5 TOs last game, which is pretty unacceptable. And the thing is, he's an above average passer for a big man, so if he would just look for cutters or the open man, he would help the team much more than trying to bully his way to the basket.

The funny thing is, this version of Drummond is relatively new. When he first came into the league, and for his first 7 seasons, he played well within himself. It's only been for the last 2 years that his turnovers have increased significantly from 2.2 per game to 3.6 per game.

It will be interesting to see how he plays tonight against the Pistons. I'm afraid he's going to get his blood up against his old team that unceremoniously dumped him and try to do too much. Let's hope for the best.

I think he'll have such a good game that it will make the Cavs brass consider giving him an extension.

Wow. What a great game. 128-119 in double OT, and the Cavs came back from a 9 point deficit in OT.

Drummond certainly had the yips early on. He did not shoot well all night, but he helped the Cavs in other ways. He filled up the stat sheet with 23 pts, 16 rbds, 5 asts, 4 stls and 3 blks. And his defense was stifling down the stretch. That was definitely vintage Drummond. And it could not have happened at a better time against Drummond's old team.

We're winning games with Drummond on the floor. His presence helps this team in a number of ways.

He definetly needs to improve his efficiency on offense. I think he was trying too hard against his former team.

He can fill up a stat sheet.

However he's a me first player and I struggle to see him ever consistently contribute on a winning team.

he also filled it up with 21 shots (missed 14) and 4 turnovers.

I’m with you. I feel like this is as good of a fan, statically, as you can hope for from him, and I routinely felt like the Cavs were better with McGee on the floor.

Drummond is not someone to give a significant chunk of cap space to, especially when he’s regularly playing outside himself.

He needs a simple hook shot or something. He's definitely quick enough to easily get right next to the rim almost any timr he wants but his skills there are just horrible. He either bullies people with his big body and he misses point blank or he turns the ball over. If he learn to use the glass more creativity or a hook shot, he would be lethal down there.

Agreed. McGee has been the pleasant surprise. Though he fouls a good bit, he knows his role. In fact, when I watch McGee play I remember how he just needed to be a wall against the Cavs bigs in the Finals, LOL

3 huge issues

He doesn't screen at all. Always slips. What's the point of that? Leaving points on the floor for the guards and himself as a roller.

Shooting off the move is something he is totally incapable of. He slipped it up trying to draw a foul. A 65% freethrower or whatever he is has no business trying to draw fouls without attempting a make. This is a small part of a larger problem shot selection

All his ballhandling is bad. His passing is good, do that instead.
