Francisco Lindor, Carlos Carrasco Traded to the Mets

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Like who? Which "real MLB outfielder" would want to sign a deal with Cleveland? This can't be the preferred destination for any FA other than the ones trying to re-establish some value or those who didn't get chosen by contenders. Schwarber just signed a 1 yr/$10M deal. You think Cleveland is going to pay someone $10M/yr?

Unless it's a significant upgrade like trading for Frazier, then they might as well let Naylor, Johnson, and Mercado get the experience. Many think Jones will get an opportunity in the OF too(I'm not one of them).

You still think this is a retool?
I never said it was a retool. No the tribe will not pay anyone $10MM although I do think a one year deal at $3-5MM is plausible. Here is a list of who is available. Of the list, I think taking a run at Jackie Bradley could make sense.

I trust the FO even though many here do not apparently. Not sure what they expected to get for one year guarantee for Lindor and a great guy in Carlos who is 32 with serious health issues. Not a done deal Mets will resign lindor. Bidding war upcoming

I trust the Front Office but I'm not sure there was enough value received for trading both guys. If you told me Lindor/Carrasco were both headed to NY I would've assumed Dom Smith was headed back here. Carrasco has been superb aside from 2019 when they were still figuring out his diagnosis and I expect him to thrive in NY. Even the best front offices make bad trades, especially when the owner is telling them to slash payroll.

This has nothing to do with trusting the FO. You act as if this is occurred because they wanted it to. They did what they had to do.

Carlos' "serious health issue" is under control for now and he pitched like he typically does. He's the model of consistency. He's worth much more than the measly $12M he's making this year and next. Unfortunately that $12M is more than the Indians' owner can swing at this time.
Sorry CDAV but leukemia will always be an ongoing serious health concern regardless of whether it currently is under control.

Joc Pederson makes a ton of sense as a platoon partner with Luplow. If both hit at career norms they'd produce all-star-caliber production together.

Point is he's healthy and can perform his duties or the Indians wouldn't have allowed him to risk his health.

I'm not playing that game with you DC. You know what I meant and nobody underplays the seriousness of leukemia. Especially someone who has family members with it. They're doing fine by the way too and live normal, fully functional lives. If caught early the treatments are very effective.

I don't believe there is enough funds to sign both Hernandez & Rosario...
I'm figuring there is $11M to $13M to spend..

While I would like to see a position brought in, Im suspecting it will be via trade (2/3 prospect pieces for 1 vet piece being brought in)..

See, I actually wouldn’t be surprised if Cesar and Rosario combine to make $13 million next season. This market is pretty brutal for the middle class free agents.

Glad to hear those who you know with leukemia are managing and doing well. I still think it is an ongoing risk with Cookie no matter how advanced the treatments. That’s my point rather than taking issue with your earlier comments. If you think I misrepresented your comments,I apologize.

Agree with most of this... Building the team via the trade market usually results in an affirmative outcome for the Indians..

..the only caveat being not knowing what the Indians have to spend.. The amount stated may be "..dead on, balls accurate.." I just don't know

Hope nothing but the best for Carlos. But he has leukemia and is 32. Doesn’t really fit the youth movement. Maybe we could have got more in a separate deal. I don’t know. But I trust this FO over anyone including me on this forum. Time will tell

Family members are not MajorLeague pitchers

C’mon. You think they dealt him because he was diagnosed with and treated for leukemia and he is some kind of risk? It was about the money.......period.

Re-signing Cesar Hernandez makes perfect sense to me. It gives this team a real presence at the top of the lineup, which they absolutely need since the plan is to still contend for a postseason spot next season. This would also allow them to manipulate Gimenez’s service time in addition to bringing him along at their preferred pace. According to Pluto’s insightful column this morning, the Indians front office felt that Gimenez was rushed by the Mets last season. Ideally, the front office is able to reinvest some of the money saved from the trade on two free agent position players. Cesar Hernandez and a corner outfielder like Eddie Rosario, Joc Pederson or Jurickson Profar would be an excellent use of funds in my opinion.

Opening Day Lineup
2B- Cesar Hernandez
3B- Jose Ramirez/
LF- Eddie Rosario
DH- Franmil Reyes
1B- Josh Naylor
SS- Amed Rosario
RF- Daniel Johnson/Jordan Luplow
C- Roberto Perez
CF- Oscar Mercado

If FO thought Gimenez was rushed, why bring him in the deal? Sounds like they want him to start AAA (especially in your lineup chart). We will have Arias, Miller, Freeman, Jones and Gimenez in AAA not to rush them .... Take out Gimenez or Rosario and add in OF/C and it would look better (but Mets didnt have OF and Alverez C and Baty 3B were too young).

And, with that line up card, will it get us close to a WC race this year? If not, why spend $10 million this year, when it can be spent when we really have a shot? I like Cesar but seems redundant unless we can trade him at deadline when out of the race and bringing up Freeman/Miller to take over.

Wonder how this sets the market for Lindor and the Mets extension talks
The Padres are in talks with star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. about a massive contract extension, Dominican news outlet Pio Deportes reports (Twitter link). The deal would keep Tatis in San Diego into the next decade, as the extension is reportedly an 11-year pact worth $320MM. According to both Pio Deportes and NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jessica Kleinschmidt (Twitter link), talks seem pretty advanced, as a source tells Kleinschmidt there is “ink on paper” but the deal still might not be finalized.

MLB prospects has Wolf as 12th in our top 30, behind McKenzie, Espino, and Hankins but ahead of Cantillo, and Greene at 16, ahead of Daniel Johnson (18) and Owen Miller (20). FWIW
they are 25th and 28th per FanGraph ... beauty of prospects it is all subjective (also MLB had L Allen over Greene in draft but now L Allen is our 23rd prospect.
