Look at the 2018-2020 lotteries. Almost exclusively the same teams, with a few exceptions. And pretty much, no player drafted in the 2018-2020 lottos has yet to transform their team or lead them anywhere.
These things take a LOT of time
For all the praise of SGA, OKC is still 12-19
SAC still 13-18
ATL and NOP still 13-17
Hell even Dallas currently with a losing record.
Now that doesn’t make Altman good or guarantee any of our young guys develop to the best of what the team envisioned or hoped for, but these things, these “build a winning franchise primarily through a consecutive run of 3-4 lotto picks, take a long long time. LeBron was an anomaly. It almost never happens that quick.
We can judge the early returns and in most regards, at the moment they don’t look good. But do not treat guys with just a half season, one season or even three seasons of experience as static end results, especially when there’s at least 1-2 more high lotto picks joining them in the next two drafts. And yes, those guys will take some time too, so it is going to be at least another 2-3 years before we truly know if the rebuild started in 2018 can have a long term success.
Perhaps I shouldn’t post this in the Koby thread though as it’s more of a general take and not a defense or backing of him.
