Ok, Kawhi Leonard didn't average more assists per 100 poss than Collin until he was 28

I think Lowry improved his assist game, but you say that if you don't look at the first 2 years he played and adjust for pace I am completely wrong.
Well, his first year, he played 10 games. He actually averaged 9.4 assists/100 possessions though. I excluded that year due to sample size, and sample size alone.

You're fine to look at his second year (his first full season) where he averaged 7.1 assists per 100 possessions. Still, a substantially larger number than anything Sexton has done.

Why wouldn't you adjust for pace? It doesn't make sense not to. Even you adjusted for per 36, because it makes sense to compare equal minutes, just as it makes sense to compare equal possessions.

Kawhi is a good comp in terms of being a facilitator and I've never doubted Collin's ability to turn into a good secondary guy as Kawhi has, or Tatum, or any other guy of that ilk.

That doesn't contradict anything I said.

I guess I don't agree with those who called Lowry a combo guard coming out of Villanova.

I always saw him as a good orchestrator who just finally broke through when he figured out his jumper.

What about those numbers make him a good orchestrator? Looks like he wasn't a good orchestrator until year 4 or 5 in the NBA.

I think my last few posts should answer your question sufficiently, but the short answer is that the numbers you posted completely ignore how many minutes he was playing, and the system he was in.

Because they trusted him to play so few minutes running the offense

I made the lowry comparison because he is a guy who had to figure out his whole game before breaking out. He might be a better orchestrator, but the rest of his game sucked.

We have sexton who is a hyper efficient scorer on his 3rd yr and the only complaint is "he gets tunnel vision at times". That is good progress if you ask me and everything points to collin fixing that and finally figuring out his complete game.

Let me say this, 5 assists from a 20+ ppg scorer is not bad.

BTW, as im typing this, cavs were playing well against the pacers until sexton was subbed out and garland turned it over 3 times in a row. Sexton subbed in as the pg, stabilized the play and has now regained the lead.

He is now having that intangible feel of the game a lot of folks lament him not having.

Watching Sexton right now and I know I’m stating the obvious but his speed is crazy and a clear advantage and at times makes it look like he is playing his own game.
too bad only cedi wants to play with that speed, but cedi's coordination clearly isn't cut for it

Last two games Collin has played 85 (out of 96) minutes, scored 71 points on 24/45 shooting (6/13 on 3s), 18 assists, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. But folks will mostly remember the 12 turnovers. :conf (8):

Lowry signed an offer letter with the Cavs? Where the hell was I?

And what was @Damage probably having done while he dated a girl who looked like which NBA PG?

He needs to take better care of the ball, but he's still learning and making passes he never really tried before. I won't complain when it comes with everything else he's doing.

He's obviously not the same player, but tonight kind of reminded of nights LeBron would put up 32-10-4 and lose because no one else could do anything.

On the topic of turnovers:
(this is not meant in reaction to tonight’s game)

The NBA’s leaders in turnovers per game reads like the All NBA team.
Sexton is ranked 29th in the league in turnoversn while playing the 6th most minutes in the league on a per game basis. Players ahead of him in turnovers per game include: Morant, Lowry, Booker, LaMelo, SGA, Mitchell, Curry, Fox, Wall, Simmons, Lollards, PG13, Beal, Lavine, Doncic, Young, and Westbrook

Of course many of these players also generate more assists. Some of them score more than him, some less. They are all high usage players like him. High usage players that handle the ball a lot make turnovers.

Again, not excusing his or the teams turnovers tonight but we need to not have some false notion that Sexton turns the ball over an absurd number of times per game when the stats don’t really back it up.

Really amazing that high usage players tend to have more turnovers. It’s almost as if the two stats are somehow related.
