2021 NBA PLAYOFFS MEGA THREAD

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Feel like so many defensive principles have to be tossed away.

Small guard driving to the hoop with his defender beat? Good. Don't help unless you're defending a dude who truly can't shoot from 3. Better he get a fairly open layup than pass out to a corner 3.

Danny Green needs to hit the bench too.

He's done and this should be his last year.

Gotta bring in someone to make it harder for Young to hide.

Would really like to see the 3P line moved back 1-2 feet. Not sure how I’d feel about eliminating the corner three but don’t know what options exist besides leaving is as is, widening the court by a foot on each side to accommodate the line being moved back, or eliminating it.

Overall though, I just don’t think the game is as good and dynamic as it can be when teams take over 50% of their shots from 3

Just feel like all the rule changes combined with kids practicing shooting over post moves for 15 years has led to too much of a swing away from the big man dominated game.

Moving it back I think helps get it to some type of medium.

I though Ben Simmons was supposed to be DPOTY though? Isn’t Thybulle and elite defender to?

I thought Trae Young was the manufactured fraud superstar?????

Moving the line back isn’t going to stop teams from shooting them.

I don’t want teams to not shoot 3P shots. I want more offensive diversity.

I want the 3P shot to be mostly for exceptional distance shooters. I want a return to some better post play and do believe that moving the line back 1-2 feet would reduce the number of PF/C taking 2-4 3P attempts per game.

Moving the line back would absolutely change the dynamic of who shoots threes, how many they shoot, how the 3P needs to be defended, the efficiency of mass quantity 3P shots vs other approaches to offense, etc.

Especially if you eliminate the corner 3.

Why tho? Post play is super boring. I dont want to watch two tall dudes who move like ents shove each other around and then flail a bad shot at the hoop to bait free throws. And it slows the game down since you gotta wait for the slow center to get in position and then post and then throw him the ball. It kills the dynamism of the game.

The math is also not on the side of the post game. Post ups are incrediby inefficient for scoring unless your name is Joel or Nikola. We saw this with Drummond this year. If you can pass well out of the post, it is useful. But more as a third option. I'd rather a semicontested 3 over a post move any day.

It’s not going to matter though. It’s not like all of the dudes who are shooting 3s now should be taking them. I don’t see a huge drop off if they move the line back. Dudes are still going to take them.

If the number of players who can currently hit between 33-36% drops, they will get coached out of taking. When that class of players is only hitting 27-33%, it loses its efficiency and becomes a bad choice. The true quality distance shooters will continue and that is fine. I don’t want the eliminate it or see the game return to the 80s/ early90’s.

Solomon Hill, career 33% 3 point shooter, has taken 7 shots today.

All of them 3s.

Fun. Exciting. Interesting.

Efficiency is relative.

If you move the line back and 3 point percentages drop, then what was once inefficient becomes more efficient in comparison.

Anyway I'm not here to convince anyone else.

Personally, I don't wanna watch teams hoist 45 3s a night. Don't find it entertaining at all. And the league losing popularity year after year means others must feel the same way.

But if they don't change anything? Then I guess I'll just put my passion into a following a different sport. And life will go on.

The other option here is stop protecting players so much an allow for more physical play.

Wow that call Trae Young just got on Thybulle was awful. Just the prototypical example of an offensive player deliberately bumping the defender and getting the call. And upheld on review - what’s wrong with the NBA?
