2021 NBA PLAYOFFS MEGA THREAD

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wow that call Trae Young just got on Thybulle was awful. Just the prototypical example of an offensive player deliberately bumping the defender and getting the call. And upheld on review - what’s wrong with the NBA?

This shit feels like it really went next level after Kawhi got his foot hurt against the Warriors.

That because a big name player injured his ankle in the playoffs meant we had to completely regulate challenging jump shooters out of the game to the point that ANY contact is now a defensive foul.

Horrible response by the NBA.

Re three pointers and how they are changing the game, highly recommend Kirk Goldsberry’s recent book “Sprawlball” which is a fantastic book length analysis of this with a bunch of recommendations for change. The NBA three pointer might be the most significant rules change in a major sport since the forward pass in the NFL - maybe more than the DH in baseball. Goldsberry has called for moving back the three point line to almost 26 feet and eliminating the corner 3.

Young wasn’t even shooting, he just had a defender side by side with him driving and lowered his shoulder and delivered a blow

of course I can hardly say Young is a fraud after these two series but the foul stuff is still annoying as fuck

Hawks certainly won't sustain this play. Hell of an performance though. I'd be excited if I was an Hawks fan.

That play by Curry is what I mean by guys having to unlearn what use to be fundamentals.

You do NOT even take ONE step off of Bogdo to help on a Kevin Huerter drive against Ben Simmons.

Not one step. Help side defense is a thing of the past.

Danny Green cannot play anymore for Philly. That was a terrible performance.

Yea.

Philly may have found something though. The Hawks really don't have a secondary ball handler in the starting unit. High energy ball pressure may work in spurts. Make them play Lou Williams with Trae Young more.

Simmons has to go out with the idea he's going to dominate. Unless they put Collins on him the Hawks have no one that can even attempt to keep him out of the paint.

Obvious adjustment for Game 2 is more minutes for Thybulle and tell him to stay in Trae's grill all game long for 94 feet.

He will foul out in 10 minutes, because any time he breathes on Trae, he will get called for a foul.

Efficiency is relative.

If you move the line back and 3 point percentages drop, then what was once inefficient becomes more efficient in comparison.

Anyway I'm not here to convince anyone else.

Personally, I don't wanna watch teams hoist 45 3s a night. Don't find it entertaining at all. And the league losing popularity year after year means others must feel the same way.

But if they don't change anything? Then I guess I'll just put my passion into a following a different sport. And life will go on.

I dont mind some change that makes 2s more valuable. I grew up on the midrange iso games of the late 00s, but post play in particular is beyond worthless and I dont think that changes unless they eliminate the lane entirely.

The problem with 3s is that you only need to make 1 in 3 to be better than the vast majority of 2 pt shot attempts. If you move the line back, players will adjust. We are already seeing guys like dame and steph pulling up from 30+ (need more of this from sexland). No reason to expect the game won't adapt to that too and we won't see more 5 out offense with everyone splashing 30 footers.
