I think we are back to "The Cleveland Baseball Team"

Foresters or something in that realm is good, but as a NW dude, it doesn't really seem to fit. However, colors, schemes, etc. could be quite interesting. Blue Caps, Blues also work..

Save Foresters for when Portland gets it's ML club...

I actually think it's wise to keep the same colors, font and the C block but adding a Guardians-themed image as the primary logo. Don't forget that Paul Dolan initially preferred to rename the team "Tribe", so I would imagine he doesn't want to completely overhaul the look of the team.
Their colors are red white and blue, only Macy Gray wants to see the colors changed. As another noted, if they go with Guardians then they need to add sandstone but that's it. I'm fine w Guardians, logo is cool and who knows may lead to more classy art deco around downtown.

What's threatening about...

Red (Stocking)s, Red Sox, White Sox, Twins, (Trolley) Dodgers, Cardinals, Orioles, Angels, Mariners, Astros, yada yada?

The interest comes from the attachment of the location to its history, heritage, or central attraction.

As such, either Spiders (history) or Rockers (central attraction) makes the most sense.

Just because Cleveland has art deco statues, called Guardians, doesn't mean much. If they did, the Reds would be renamed the Flying Pigs.

Rockers was the name of the former WNBA team and it really never was popular. No to that. Any logo with a guitar ( which would come with that name) seems so unoriginal.

I am surprised Buzzards (with the history of wmms) which was an early idea never got steam.

Spiders is fine, since it is only being used for colleges, but I think they could find something more creative. I am going to guess they go with Guardians.

I think Dolan should give Jose a ten year contract as player-manager, and name the team the Mad Hamsters.

I think if it is going to come from history, heritage, or a central attraction, it needs to be something that is commonly known/admired before the naming actually occurs. The overwhelming majority of Clevelanders have no knowledge that the Spiders ever existed, and every single fan of the Spiders has been dead for decades, My guess is that when "Guardians" is mentioned, the reaction of most fans would be "huh?", followed by an explanation of "yeah, they're those big statues on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge, which is what most people actually call that bridge. The official name is the "Hope Memorial Bridge." So I don't think "Guardians" is going to connect for most people. Again, unless you add some kind of explanation.

"Rockers"....I just don't think naming the baseball team after a failed WNBA franchise in the same city is going to appeal to a lot of fans, although it may admittedly appeal to former fans of the Rockers.

If we're sharing names instead of swapping name, just take the Jumbo Shrimp name.

Nahhhh..
Trash Pandas or Sod Poodles

Or we could take the name of Pittsburgh's AAA team in Indianapolis... Indians.

The issue is the Spiders aren't a part of this franchise's history, it was over 100 years ago, and they were a failed franchise.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; my biggest worry with picking Guardians is that they'll keep everything else the same. Same colors, same fonts, same block C logo, etc.

This is my primary reason for supporting "Guardians" - I don't want to start completely over. It would feel like an expansion team.

Keep Block C, keep the colors, keep the road uniforms, keep the branding we've had for over 100 years and just flip out the controversial name for a positive one.
