Maybe they asked him to step down instead of cutting him. They might have said they wanted to bring in someone like Jarrett Allen for more size and Love understood that he was standing in the way of someone that can contribute more than him from being able to go to the Olympics.
The guy could barely move out there, watching him the first game , he got like 3 fouls in one minute, his defense is shot no lateral movement, not saying he has much before………

Not sure whether Popps is thrilled or furious to lose Love.

The question is if they offered a spot to Allen would he take it when he is coming up on a big pay day. The timing of the Olympics and free agency could force someone like Allen to decline because he won't want to risk injury.
With the covid issues this usa olympic team is teetering right now and heading for a time crunch with any players added or players coming from the finals.
Did Love realize that this team was like the Titanic heading for the iceburg and said I'm getting outta here because I am going to get blamed
it this team flames out? Or is he just a big pussy that should take a medical retirement?

The guy’s body can’t handle the pounding of an 82 game season anymore. He ought to retire. Of course, I doubt his agent or fiancée will allow him to, knowing that he can collect $60M over the next two seasons regardless of whether he plays a single minute or not. The Cavs essentially gave Love a lottery ticket.

82 games? He wouldnt last a weekend tourny at your local rec center

Once again, people in this thread blaming Love for signing the contract that was offered to him.

I remember when Kevin shuffled his shoes on the Stop to help us break a 52 year championship drought. I don’t remember Jim Thome, Bernie Kosar, Joshua Cribbs, Kenny Lofton, Joe Thomas, or any other beloved athletes getting the job done. So was Jim Thome stealing too?

Be happy we have tanked the last few years. Cavs are going to be in a good place next summer and Love will be a net positive expiring asset. Thank you for the championship Kevin and for sticking around. Most athletes don’t. Hell, Thome left us twice. Sorry about the injury luck. I know Kyrie has been snake bitten as well. Klay Thompson. KD. Kawhi. And Kobe as he aged. It happens.

I will never understand the need people have to take personal shots at Love solely because his body is breaking down.
Hate has a home here.

It’s understandable that Kevin is resented - he’s rich, good looking and has had a lot of hot women. A lot of people resented Joe Namath back in the day - he was always hurt.

It‘s really a shame that he’s hurt, because an 18-8 32 mpg Love would be perfect for our young team. I think that’s why Pops wanted him as well - outside shooting, veterans presence and rebounding / outlet passing. It’s clear from the latter part of last season and the exhibition games that he’s just not healthy. Nobody’s fault - it happens. Jack Lambert had to retire due to a big toe that wouldn’t heal but nobody complained about that. Kevin just doesn’t have that kind of rep but I do believe he’s legitimately injured. Silly to be mad about it but I get it.

I don't blame him that much. Would have been nice to get a single value year out of that contract. He isn't really that old. We lost basically the entire of his prime? That sucks pretty bad even if you aren't blaming him.

Also after Drummond I am questioning his expiring being an asset.

While I agree the Cavs didn't get a value year out of the contract, Cleveland absolutely got "his prime" from 2014 to 2018.

I'm just angry that all of my American Hero jokes are headed to the trash bin.

Wouldn't you say his prime was cut short? I think we thought we were getting the back end of it and all we got was a rear end

THE CAVS LIKE ALL PRO TEAMS HAVE INSURANCE POLICY ON PLAYERS THE CAVS WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY ALL HIS SALARY.

This is true. If Love has a legitimate injury then insurance will cover a portion of the salary. Unfortunately, it does not remove the salary cap charge from the books

There’s no way any of us know what the terms and conditions are on whatever insurance policies the Cavaliers have on their players. It doesn’t matter, though, because insurance doesn’t help with the salary cap and WGAF about whether Dan and his minority owners or the insurance company foots the bill.

THAT I understand but the cavs can spend what they need to get a player that will be able to play and still be under the cap '
