2021 NBA PLAYOFFS MEGA THREAD

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Giannis at the podium saying that he wanted to stay in the city and win. He said he could have joined a super team but that would be easy. What a slam on LeBron and Durant.

Meanwhile Magic already advocating stacking the deck with Chris Paul.

What constitutes a super team? I don't consider the 2020 Lakers one. The Warriors were built organically aside from KD (which obviously was the biggest piece, but they did win without him).

The Nets? LeBron's Heat?

"I could go to a super team and do my job and just win a championship"- Giannis the GOAT

Shots fired at literally everyone.
He‘s doing to the prima donnas in the NBA what his ancestors did to the Persians 2500 years ago.

Title at age 27. Well done young man.

He always struck me as someone who didn’t quite believe in his own ability to dominate. That’s gone after tonight. He’s going to be a big problem for other teams in this league for a lot of years.

i think giannis meant players forcing their way into teams. you already mentioned the nets. clippers is another as well as lakers.

LeBron to the Heat, Durant to the Warriors and the Nets are three examples. AD to the Lakers also counts. In each case superstars took the easy path which Giannis has contempt for.

Man the Indiana Pacers fan base has to be losing it at this point…

They had the great 90 and early 2000’s run… Sandwich in between there was a Bulls dynasty and a Pistons/Cavs/Bucks championship….

In addition it would suck to be a Wolves fan…

The Nets team they played weren't stacked though. Kyrie got hurt in G4 (the Nets were up 2-1 at the time) and missed the rest of the series. James Harden missed the first 4 games and wasn't the same when he came back. They started and played Bruce Brown 52 minutes in Game 7.

Again, it's not the Bucks' fault - you can only play who is in front of you. But the truth is they barely got by a Nets team that was crushed by injuries and likely lose if either Kyrie or Harden is 100% all series.

To be fair, it should also be said they won without Giannis in some big ECF games.

Hopefully we don't have an unprecedented number of injuries next season like we did this year.
That team is stacked, they just did so with injury-prone players.

I guess to me it's two different things - super teams vs players forcing their way somewhere. I thought KD to GS was weak as hell, but he was a free agent. Same with LeBron to Miami and Kyrie/KD to Brooklyn.

Then there's guys forcing their way somewhere when under contract - Harden with Houston, AD with the Pelicans.

It seems maybe Giannis' problem is more with the latter, and if that's true I'm with him. But super teams can form legitimately as well.

My point is they're likely the champions if everyone stayed healthy or hell, even 2 of their big 3. The team that walked out in the floor in Game 7 was in no way stacked.

any team counting on irving's health to win a championship must account for his injury history. the cavs did a good job managing irving's load in the 2016 championship run, and that's because of the injury lesson in the 2015 finals and his various injuries since his rookie season. guy is made of glass

Let’s not ignore that the Cavaliers fall under this umbrella as well. Two of their three best players arrived via mercenary signing and mercenary trade.
