2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’m confused why Duarte is a potential lottery pick all of a sudden? The guy is 24, he damn well better be dominating at the NCAA level.

Neither of those guys will last to the second round. I think Preston or BJ Boston are more realistic possibilities

I'd take a swing on BJ Boston. He is a project but he has measurables for what you want as a wing. He also was thought to be a top prospect before this year. He could be another one of those Kentucky guys who didn't show exactly what he had in college and could be a better pro.

I also think Jalen Johnson is going to fall. If we can get him with Prince plus some future 2nd round picks I would do it.

Kai Jones
Jared Butler
Sharife Cooper
Tre Mann
Isaiah Todd

If we were able to get a late first, I'd take these guys if they were available in this order

Tre Mann would be a PERFECT 3rd guard. I've read all this love for SGA today with rumors that he was made available by OKC for a tradeup... Tre Mann to me has everything Shai has at the exact same size but has an even better outside shot

Exact same size my ass; he has a 6'4" wingspan and an 8'2.5" standing reach. That's no better than Sexton and Garland.

I really do like Cooper and Mann ..for other teams. Hope the Cavs go against grain and don't pick any small guards in the draft this year.

Well, maybe you’re right.

The OP mentioned McBride so thought that was fair game.

And seems to be at least some smoke about Cooper slipping according to Veccine and others. He wasn’t invited to green room was he? Wouldn’t be surprised if his range is 25-40.

Doesn’t change the fact that both are interesting.

If we go late first / second round guard, I'd much prefer Jaden Springer. I have no idea how he's not a lottery prospect, and to me, he'll be the best bang-for-your-buck bargain selection. I think one of the youngest players in this class too?

Don't let a little less length ruin a good career

The age is his only knock. Having watched him, he's ready to compete in a good rotation right away as a 3 and D swingman.

I'm just saying he seems like a 1-position defender (or, gulp, a 0-position defender if he's not quick or strong enough to handle NBA PGs). I think he's a little smart and scrappy like Garland so he won't be a complete loss on that end. But not what the Cav need IMO.

Kevin Pelton came out with his top-30 statistical rankings: https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/st...ranking-top-30-prospects-based-stats-scouting

Top 10
1. Sengun
2. Garuba
3. Giddey
4. Wagner
5. Moody
6. Murphy
7. Kuminga
8. Mobley
9. Suggs
10. Champanie

Cade: 18
Green: 12
Barnes: 27
Kispert: 29

Biggest differences vs my raw statistical rankings, at a glance:

-My model is higher on Barnes and McBride, slotting both easily in the top-10. Also relatively high on Grimes, though not quite top-10.

-My model is a bit lower on Kuminga, Green, and Cade, significantly lower on Murphy, Wieskamp, Bassey, Edwards, Hyland, Primo (in no particular order).

Here's a better comparison (couldn't resist)

Note: Sengun is literally off the charts here, obviously both models have him far and away the best prospect in the draft.

I see problems with Pelton's model if the top four players are international players. However, that's not a big issue overall. I doubt Pelton intends his article to be a definitive ranking, instead a data study to help influence somebody who scouts with his eyes and experience.
