He was a late first round pick & I truly think this is his last chance. You gotta be available and the poor guy just hasn't had a whole lot of luck being that. He provides a commodity we need and SHOULD have a role off the bench if he can stay healthy. He isn't one dimensional, it just that we haven't gotten to see many of his dimensions.

Injury prone players as good as he is are all over the place in the NBA. None of the injuries are major either.
If he can have one productive season he will be around though at least another contract.
I think some forget just how talented when healthy he proved to be before the NBA.

Leg injuries like his are troublesome. And by last chance, I meant with us. I think he ultimately would get another shot with someone else if he can shake the bug if we move on from him. Shooters tend to always find life in this league.

It would have been nice if he was available last year so we wouldn't have to have played Cedi so many minutes.
He has to stay healthy or I agree with you his time in Cleveland will be over.

Calling it now:

Windler has another season with injury struggles. At the end of the season, he and the Cavs part ways.

He then goes on to find success as a three-point sniper elsewhere, in the Joe Harris mold.

For years afterward, the same posters who have been clamoring for the Cavs to cut bait on Windler will get Message Board Amnesia (terrible condition that affects as many as 83% of posters), and will then be saying that they “knew all along” that Windler was a player, and blame the Cavs for parting ways with him.

So how many injury plagued years should they wait?

In case this has not already been posted..

Essentially a puff piece on Windler..

For some reason this line had me laughing:

Given Windler’s shooting ability, and Cleveland’s desire to modernize the offense with more 3-point attempts, there’s a prominent role waiting -- if he can stay healthy.

I imagine JB and Altman sitting around a big boxy RCA television playing a grainy VCR tape of last year's playoffs - searching for answers.

It’s a puff piece, but the fact that he’s not under any restrictions and is running without pain is news and encouraging news. Those are preconditions to him being a contributor this year.

Pretty amazing he’s only played 31 out of 137 games. I’m rooting for Windler, as he has the ability to give us exactly what we need at wing. He was an outstanding shooter and plus rebounder at Belmont, so hopefully we get to see some of that. The clock is ticking if we’re gonna pick up his 4th year option.

Love that he ran seven miles at practice with no ill effects. This is a guy who could really help because his skill set fits what they need to a T.

We have guards who play with the ball in their hands, so you need to put people around them who are good at playing without the ball, instinctively. [Windler] plays extremely well without the basketball. - Bickerstaff

I would put Markkinan in that category as well, along with Mobley, Allen, and Okoro as guys who don't need the ball in their hands. We have a decent mix of players who need the ball to be effective (Sexton, Garland, Rubio, Love) and those who don't.

Last year after recovering from the wrist injury Windler was just starting to get rolling when his knee acted up again.

Upon his return in late January, Windler felt uncomfortable and out of rhythm. He tried to fight through lingering discomfort in his left patella tendon, near where doctors had inserted a stabilizing rod down the leg. It took a couple weeks to shake off the rust -- and hit some outside shots. Shortly after drilling nine consecutive 3-pointers in an astounding two-game stretch, the pain in his knee intensified...Eventually, it became unbearable.

For a few weeks he was beginning to look like the player we thought we drafted. Hopefully we'll get to see a full season of that guy this year. So far, so good.

The column also mentioned that his release is quicker, which I felt was necessary since NBA defenders are longer and can close faster than the guys he faced at Belmont.

Nation is currently gripped by another case of “missing white woman syndrome” - identified by PBS contributor Gwen Ifill over ten years ago (MWWS). Natalie Holloway, Gabby Petito, there’ve been others.

Cavaliers also have MWWS - missing white wing syndrome. Cedi and Dylan. You can stretch 4 a bit and add Kevin and Dean to that list. (Dean has progressed some from being an undrafted two way but he’s not the answer either). Korver went missing in the playoffs a few seasons back.

“Upon his return in late January, Windler felt uncomfortable and out of rhythm”

Awwwwww is that right ?? Well when you put it that way….

In fact maybe that’s because this Belmont Bricklaying diarrhea exploding gas can of a draft pick would be far more comfortable playing in Portugal WHERE HE BELONGS !!!!

Get him off my team and send him outta the country… In fact don’t let him back in….

Would he look like Trevor Lawrence if he grew his hair out?
