This Ben Simmons saga may have some major implications for the next CBA. This is just the latest case of a player deciding they don't want to play out their contract and bailing to one of a handful of teams limiting their current team's ability to find a decent deal. AD and Harden as notable cases.

Ben is by far the worst case as the other guys at least showed up to training camp (even if it was in a fat suit).

As much as I don't like a lot of the way LeBron does stuff, he has at least always honored the contract and given 100% when push came to shove in the playoffs.

I really expect the owners to crack down on this and include some honor the faith kind of clause. Its one thing if a player doesn't like their situation and requests a trade and works out a deal to stay home with the team (John Wall on a rebuilding Hou for example, Iggy with Mem). That seems reasonable since both sides are working together on it.

But when a player decides they want out after signing a 4 year extension bc they don't want to live in that city anymore or think the team is capped out? That is some bullshit. Now we are hearing rumblings Zion wants out and he may go the route of Ben (and what Kyrie nearly did with the surgery in Cle). It especially some bullshit when your team is a contender. I want nothing to do with Ben Simmons because he actively represents everything that I don't want in my teams culture without backing that shit up on the court. Beyond just the part that I don't think he is the kind of player you can build anything around. Again to the LeBron point, don't like how he does stuff but he always showed up in crunch time.
What? Didn’t you see him quit in the Boston series when he was playing for the Cavs?

Ok, crazy, insane trade idea here.

Ben Simmons for Kyrie Irving.

Works in the trade machine.

Both are head cases.

Kyrie wouldn’t have to get vaccinated and Philly is just down the road from his hometown. Philly would have lethal shooting.

Simmons probably wouldn’t like sharing the ball with Harden but with him and Durant on the wing all sorts of space would open up inside for him.

The media would be 100% behind this trade because of the sheer insanity of the stories. A Brooklyn - Sixers series would be epic. Brooklyn is a doable city for Ben’s socialite time.

Obviously this trade favors Philly so some other items might have to be added.

It’s nuts on every level, I know - that’s why I need this to happen!

this is sort of brilliant

Nets are like the ideal team for Simmons

I think Kyrie is pretty loyal to the Nets though, doubt he would go for it

Irving not practicing.

Ya know, my big issue the bubble summer with him is he wouldn't stand on his own and sacrifice. He wanted everyone else to do it. Had he said "fuck it, I'm not playing and I'll forego my paycheck to make a statement" I'd have respected the hell out of that and his message would have been way more powerful.

If he stands on this I'd respect the hell out of that too.

He's gonna retire young anyway. I think everyone knows that.
He wants to be martyr'ed but the league will never do that, its too player friendly.

So the Sixers dumped Ben‘s $8 million oct 1 payment into escrow and are permanently withdrawing $360,000 for every game he misses, starting with Monday’s Toronto preseason opener. He’ll lose another $360,000 today. Looks like Ben should have spoken with Nerlens Noel before going along with Rich Paul’s strategery.

Per the CBA (as reported by SI) Ben won’t get the lost money back.

You hate to see it.

Makes some sense, BUT KD would never allow it as Kyrie is the reason he signed with the Nets, in the first place.

I was wondering how this would go. I thought he would get his 8M. What do they do if he is traded? Who pays the 8M? They can't sue for breach of contract because he is also supposed to show up.

Wild stalemate.

Its like a list of who's not who of former Cavs.

Telfair
Miles
Moon
Brown

Apparently Osman is just lucky he isnt a former NBA player yet or he would have been charged too.
