Cavaliers Trade Ideas: 2022-23 regular season edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I am not against it, but what happens if we can get a long term piece without giving up any of the main players we currently have? It feels like as fans, I just don't want to finish the 21-22 season as the 6 seed, but I want to get as high as possible ya know?

I actually kind of like the fact we should have a mid 20 pick and two more picks likely within the first 10 picks in the second round. We should be able to get two role players to add to the team. This organization is in a good place, but I just want one more piece personally.

If you can get a long term piece, I'm all for it. Who do you have in mind?

I'm just not of the mind of filling 1 hole by creating another. Folks mention moving Markkanen, but don't realize him being a 7' small forward that can switch to PF, C and even SG in a pinch, is one of this teams biggest benefits...people mention throwing Okoro in a deal but we don't know how much his offense will develop. Is he the guy that was scoring 20ppg before his elbow injury, the guy that folks were willing to throw away, or something else? Even Rubio has a benefit to this team going forward. No one can question his impact on this team. Wouldn't he be happy to stay in the place he's said was the happiest he's been in the NBA until he's ready to retire?

The other thing to think about is how any of the folks people are looking at getting impact this team. What does Lavert bring that Cedi/Okoro/Stephens can't or haven't (for less money combined)? Joe Harris provides a different skill, but he's far worse on defense and has next to zero playmaking skill. So, we have a shooting threat, but give up more points.

A team that's 2.5 games out of 1st place should absolutely look to improve the roster, but these guys are so young and far from a finished project that *I* am nervous to shift course before the foundation is even dry.

I"m just expecting a smaller deal like Rubio's contract and a second rounder for Gary Harris
if there isn't a young piece available at a reasonable price. ( I do like some of the Spurs players but
i realize wanting to trade for Murray isn't going to happen..Vassell would be a nice young piece)

Would like to get Robin Lopez along with Gary Harris if we could. I don’t think we can do much better than that without giving up something really valuable to us.

Well what I am looking at roster wise, C Allen, PG Garland, PF/C Love, SF/PF Markkanen, PF/C Mobley, SG/SF Okoro, SG/SF Osman, PG Rondo and SG/SF Stevens are the main guys... anyone else on the roster is available in my mind. Then it seems like it goes Windler and Goodwin for the depth chart... Rubio's expiring contract could be huge netting us someone and I dont think we need to keep Sexton going forward which is the opposite of what I thought in the off season to be sincere.

We don't lack defensive ability as well, but we currently lack another scorer from 2/3 and a long term PG behind Garland. On paper I will like a starting SG to go beside Garland in the starting rotation.

Now when it comes to who is available... I am trying to figure that one out myself since I havent been watching the league as closely as I normally do.

Pistons dont have a good target, Thunder also likely don't have a veteran target,

Now for those who fit... I dont think Harris is an upgrade, Bogdanovic I dont think is worth his price, Eric Gordon is okay, but his numbers don't impress me, Powell from the TrailBlazers has way too long of a contract...

LeVert could be a target, but can we get him without giving up someone from those 9 I mentioned early? If we can then I would like to bring him in on paper. Hield is also another guy who makes sense from the Kings on paper,

New Orleans has Graham and Hart who could be targets as well, Id love Murray from the Spurs, but that wouldnt happen, so maybe White from them, but I think he is overpaid for what he can.

I would actually lean toward LeVert or Hield being the top likely targets...

Getting Derrick White would be a steal. There is a legitimate argument that he is a better player than Dejounte Murray. I would love him on this team if we can get him while keeping our top 7 or so intact

I havent seen him play a lot and he doesn't have near the stats that Murray has. Do you think he would be a fit for this roster?

Cavs get: Derrick White & Doug McDermott
Spurs get: Ricky Rubio & Cedi Osman

Why?
Cleveland replaces Rubio with another playmaker & add a three point specialist.
Spurs get cap relief & a player on a team friendly deal.

Yes. It is a matter of scalability. Murray does a lot of good stuff, but he needs the ball and needs floor spacers to play with him (tho he has improved his shot a lot recently). Derrick White can handle the ball some, but is great at shooting off screens, DHOs, pin downs etc. Both are good defenders, tho Murray is probably a bit better, even post ACL. White would probably end up eating into some of the Rondo/Okoro/Stevens mins, but I am totally okay with that as he would be a massive upgrade for the short and long term.

I just dont really want to move Osman to be honest. I think hes really found a spot in the rotation off the bench.

Well I am thinking the rotation would cut out Stevens minutes for this season. Garland, White, Markannen, Mobley, Allen as the starters, with Love, Osman, Rondo, and Okoro then Stevens... How well do you think something like that would work?

Quite well. I would expect Rondo gets pushed further down the rotation as well for this year. Rondo/Stevens/Windler/Wade would get pulled up for the 10th man minutes just like we see them now depending on matchup and game.

Rondo would be the 9th guy, while Stevens would be number 10 in the rotation. Thats what I am trying to lean towards is not touching our current top 9 and adding in a complimentary player to that rotation in essentially Sexton's place...

Unless you're consolidating assets, most of the moves talked about just cut into the things that have made this team good so far.

Where does McDermott and White play? Garland, Okoro, Lauri, Evan, JA, Love, Stephens all play 25-35min.

Maybe the trade us in February, maybe in the summer but I have an idea of a win-win situation for the Cavs and Raptors. Swap Lauri for OG Anunoby.

Anunoby and Markkanen are less important to their current teams due to Mobley/Barnes. The Raptors have a need of a 7 footer who can stretch the floor. They have plenty of wings (Siakam, Barnes, and Trent). Cavs are heavy in the front court, but could use a wing.

The contracts of Markkanen and OG are very similar. It’s an easy swap. It will help provide a need for both teams going forward. Maybe the Cavs have to include the Rockets 2nd to sweeten the deal.
I can't see Toronto trading OG for anyone short of a star and multiple first round picks. It's like trading for Brandon Ingram. Him and Barnes are their core. They hope OG develops into a Kawhi. If they could get him though... oooh boy.

People are sleeping on what Eric Gordon could offer this team. Yeah he hasn’t been a volume scorer on the Rockets but that’s not surprising with all their ball hog rookies. Look at his shooting stats, they are among the best in the league — he’s leading all backcourt players in effective field goal percentage. Plus he’s a solid defender, a decent distributor (4 assist per 36 minutes) and a smart, good character veteran presence.

He’s historically been fragile so there’s a chance he comes here and gets injured, which would suck. And we’d commit to pay him $21 million next year. But in terms of his performance this year he’d be really perfect for us.

I like Gordon but giving up no FRP for him……
