Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Emily Mayfield hasn't done anything remotely similar to what OBJ's crew did. OBJ is about OBJ. We thought/hoped NY was the issue and not him, but it didn't work out.

He may have been worth his baggage a few years ago but not anymore. Good riddance.

Kareem Hunt's dad said the same thing without posting any film. So are you saying the film is the sticking point? The film that was made up of gameplay that we all saw live and that wasn't fabricated?

What's different from what OBJ's dad and Kareem Hunt's dad said?

Baker Mayfield absolutely sold James Hudson out after the PIT game. He didn't post any highlights but he straight up dogged James Hudson and the coaching staff like they were the sole reason for his horrible game that day.

Also really? Where have you been when Baker and his wife both picked fights with the fans all season?

He didn't sell out Hudson, he said the team didn't put him in a spot to succeed and tried to protect a teammate from criticism...VERY different.

And Stefanski agreed.

“Obviously their front’s pretty good, has been for years,’’ Mayfield said after the game. “But when you’ve got T.J. Watt over there and we’re not giving our rookie tackle a whole lotta help, it’s not going to be good for us.’’

Kevin Stefanski agreed that the Browns shouldn’t have left Hudson out on an island as much as they did. Mayfield is playing with a torn labrum in his left non-throwing shoulder, protected by a harness.

“Yeah, all of the above. Truly,’’ Stefanski said of not giving Hudson enough help. “We just have to be better. But that’s really frustrating.’’

Many of the Browns have bickered with fans this years and I'm also tired of it. But again, only one player had his dad attack a teammate on social and used a hashtag to force his way out of town. That's a whole other level.

IIRC Hunt's dad said Baker wasn't healthy enough to play, not that he wasn't good. But yeah, that was shitty too. And Hunt wasn't orchestrating an exit behind the scenes.

The guy is the QB and leader of the team… The guy insisted on playing all year until the last game (which he setup with his agent after the Steelers game per his post game interview)

He also never conducts any end of the season interviews. Always ducks that…

Baker was rude about 3/4 into the season and said he owes nobody nothing but his teammates in a rude media session (to a Tom Withers question no less)—-He goes after the media when his wife goes after the fans…

He’s not the type of leader this organization needs as he seems to be pretty insecure overall

I see quite a few Browns fans attempting to make these instagram posts matter more than they do.

Calling it "coordinated" is silly, you have no evidence of that.

You have Mayfield's wife going around subtweeting media reports and calling others out, then apologizing.

We don't need to overstate the importance of these things. Baker was shit, OBJ has called out that shit his whole career and that's never going to fly as an outspoken WR without getting the "diva" label attached.

I'll take who he is over the fake leadership people dupe the media into believing by comparison....

Good luck to him playing for the NFC Championship, while Baker sits his ass at home after being the primary reason this team didn't make the playoffs. I have absolutely no problem recognizing where the blame lies.

You think it was just a coincidence that his dad posted the videos and then, on trade deadline day, a bunch of his high profile friends started tweeting #FreeOBJ at the same time and he did nothing to stop it all?

Agree to disagree I suppose. Go Bucs.

And one of the reasons I'm going so hard at Baker is because he had plenty of opportunities all season long to dead this. He could've ended all of this drama on multiple occasions but instead he choose to use his cocky attitude. The final straw was when he attacked the fans.

The problem with Baker is he doesn't know how to be humble and lick his wounds. He has to have that cocky underdog attitude even when the situation doesn't call for it. That stunt he pulled after walking off after the win over DET was bush league but he doubled down on that by getting feisty with Tom Withers of all people. Instead of taking the L and being humble he always doubles down.

Leaking is injury to Jay Glazer hours before a Thursday Night primetime home game in which he was not playing in was also another cocky and calculated move by Baker.

Don't forget when he puffed his chest out and flat out told everyone that he is the one who decides on if he plays or not which without question put the coaching staff and the FO in an unfavorable position. Now they have to go and defend their practice for how they handle injuries because their cocky QB wanted to remind everyone who's boss. He could've just sat there and ate his food but nope. Underdog!!!!!!!!

Baker though he was handling this whole saga like a boss when in reality he was being very selfish and did not display the type of leadership that you want to see from a franchise QB. A lot of decisions and moves he made this season were of self interest and whenever he made the wrong decision or the wrong move he never owned up to it. He acted like a bitch and the only part that really upsets me personally is when he and his wife had it out for the fans because it seems to me that Baker Mayfield and his camp feel like he is the reason that the Browns are even relevant right now like he dragged us out of some hole and we should be forever grateful for him. That's been his attitude and that's how he has conducted himself.

No more of a coincidence then running to Jay Glazer to have him remind people about how injured you really are hours before a crucial primetime home game in which you were not suiting up for. Or no more of a coincidence that parading the talking point all season long that you would have to be dragged off the field to not play and then turn around after we are eliminated from the playoffs and say that you'll have to discuss with your agent on if you'll be playing in the finale.

Oh and if people believe this is gonna be a fairly quick fix between Baker and the Browns fans they’re severely mistaken…

Even after 2020 I still (in this thread) said I would trade him for Watson if I could….That playoff game against the Chiefs and Chase Daniel ? Like seriously c’mon…. 17 points ??? Missing 14 throws ?? Can’t come up clutch at all….

So no this won’t be a quick fix with a healthy shoulder—-He can’t come in and play like he did in 2020 and all will be well… That guy in 2020 was not good enough to get it done either…. Baker is gonna have to come out and put up MVP numbers to even just have the chance to change the narrative that is all over him now….

I don’t see the physical talent nor believe he has the mental temperament to pull it off…

I can't imagine not being able to see the significant differences between what Baker and OBJ did this season but you do you, Los.

Do I think OBJ messaged all his friends and said please help me by retweeting this dipshit hashtag?

No, I don't. Because that's an incredibly stupid and ineffective way of making any impact at all.

A bunch of high profile friends recognize that the dude was becoming a media punching bag and was better off elsewhere, and they were right. OBJ is a weapon with a QB who consistently puts him in position to make plays.

The Browns are sitting at home specifically because of this reason, I don't see what the big deal is about admitting it.

I think his team orchestrated the whole thing, yes. And it was effective - he got exactly what he wanted.

People are going to convince themselves of whatever they want, I can't really help that. Sounds incredibly silly to believe a coordinated hashtag effort has the immense bargaining power you seem to believe it does.

Needless to say, OBJ's dad was right, his friends were right and he did get what he wanted.

The Browns problems offensive are in desperate need of being fixed and are teetering on the edge of dragging this team down even further than the "just missed" playoff hopefuls they were this season.

It starts, and probably ends, with 6.

Odell did not publicly trash his teammates, coaching staff, FO, fans, media, or medical staff. Baker did. Odell was not an issue in the locker room and was well liked by his teammates and his coaches. Baker...........

From a 2021 preseason article by Jake Trotter:

"After a drastic recommitment to eating smarter and exercising harder, Mayfield is in the best shape of his career. He’s reduced his body fat from 18 to 11%. He lost 14 pounds despite adding 4 pounds of muscle, and now weighs 214, which is lighter than what his listed weight was at Oklahoma. He can do almost twice as many pushups in one stint as before (45 from 25). And he’s hit new personal highs in everything from squats to the vertical jump."

And then he had his worst season. So much for that correlation.

By the way, Josh Allen didn't come into the league in great shape. He's worked to build his body up too, which is common with young athletes.

We can question Baker's ability but any takes about his work ethic are lazy IMO.
Should we be impressed that a professional athlete can do 45 push ups? 25 is pretty pathetic btw. I’m glad that Baker finally got serious about his conditioning and it being a contract year probably had something to do with it. He proceeded to have his second worst year thus far however.
