Uhhh — his name is Colon, no?
Exactly. That's all I was saying. Plus on top of being out of shape he spent a lot of time during that offseason talking big shit about Cowheard, Rex Ryan, and Hue Jackson. His mentality was not where we needed it it be entering that season.
But that's my point. Baker and Josh Allen came into the league the same season. One guy worked his ass off to improve and has done so every season they've been in the league. The other guy admitted that he was out of shape and didn't take things serious enough. He admitted this himself so why is it lazy for me to question his work ethic?
Are we also going to forget how Baker snapped back at MCK when she asked him what he needed to improve in the offseason and if he needed to get some help from outside? He got real offended and said something along the lines of he does need any advice or help from anyone.
These are things that Baker has done and said. We're not putting words in his mouth or making shit up. In his 4 full seasons here we've watched Baker openly criticize two of his Head Coaches, go at teammates and question their commitment (Duke Johnson) while he himself was not committed enough to be in shape, get in various fights with people in the media (Cowheard, Rex Ryan, MCK, Grossi), and straight up attack the fans on more than one occasion.
I'm just laughing at how quickly the script has been flipped. I know earlier in the season there were quite a few of us that suggested that Baker shut it down and get surgery as soon as we found out he had a torn labrum.
I predicted exactly how this would play out. I said that if he doesn't shut it down and he goes out there and stinks it up (he did) that all we would hear at the end of the season was injury excuses and that's not acceptable.
The entire season Baker wanted it both ways. He wanted to get credit for playing hurt and he also wanted a pass in case he sucked while playing hurt. The same people getting defensive about his play after the season has ended were the same ones arguing against shutting him down. I suggested that we either start Case Keenum or trade for another backup like Cam or Nick Foles and just ride out this season.
Had Baker shut it down after he tore his labrum he would've rode into this offseason with a lot more goodwill and there wouldn't be this many questions about his status as the starter for next season. I don't think too many people would be opposed to riding with him as the starter next season if he had shut it down earlier. he would be in better standing with the fan base too.
But nope. Baker wanted it all and once things got worse and he got more injured his lack of leadership started to show. leaking shit to Jay Glazer, the OBJ situation spiraling the way it did and dividing the locker room, and attacking the fans and the media.
So much of this could've been avoided had Baker just shut it down and got the surgery earlier in the season. there was not a single positive in the end for Baker continuing to play through it. Not one. If anything things only got worse from his perspective.
But it's crazy to me watching people try to double back and rewrite history.
It's wild to me that OBJ had his dad post disparaging highlights on Instagram of a teammate and ripped him further in the comments while all of OBJ's friends all tweeted #FreeOBJ - all clearly coordinated to try to push his way out - and that your take is that Baker didn't show leadership.
browns saved 3m, which they immediately gave to Teller.Leadership is more than consistently attempting to act like a leader in the press.
OBJ was mercilessly slammed in the press and his friends and family are going to fight back, that's just common sense.
In fairness, he's proven himself right and gets a chance to help his new team (which we received no compensation for) get to the NFC Championship. Just shitty situation all around, but just pointing the finger at OBJ doesn't excuse Mayfield's lack of leadership and doing quite a bit of "family and friends" subtweeting in 2021.
Baker has a chance to prove his haters wrong in 2022, but what OBJ and Baker do with their respective instagram accounts are not very far apart.

When did a family member of Baker post highlights to try to highlight poor play of a teammate? I get that Baker has had some questionable IG posts but nothing to that extreme. I never saw his friends tweeting #FreeBaker.
OBJ is who he is. He did this shit in NY, he did it here, and if you give him time once the honeymoon period is over he'll do it in LA too. But if you want to blame him not working out here on someone, it's Stefanski, but I'm not sure I would even agree there.
Emily Mayfield was subtweeting shit all season long.
OBJ called out shitty play in New York, called out shitty play in Cleveland.
I don't really care, quite honestly. That's had nothing to do with "leadership" anywhere outside of the pundit world.

The season's lack of success boils down to Baker. Was it because Baker was injured? Or is he just not good enough?
I do think his injuries limited him dramatically, and things only got worse as he attempted to compensate, which created bad habits, which led to mistakes, which lead to trusting his eyes even less, double-clutching even more.
I don't see an upgrade option available to the team, unless you want to take on Cousins and his contract - even that depends on who is hired in Minnesota.
With that in mind, the best option as this stage is for Baker to heal up, and hope those bad habits came as a result of the injuries, not a lack of competence or skill.
Only time will tell.
