Game # 41: Cavaliers @ Golden State: Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wally showed why he needs to be traded tonight although he hit some 3's during the game.

Those threes just make the case about his defense even stronger. He scored, what, 10 points in 15 minutes on 3 of 5 shooting? And was still negative 11 in the plus/minus...he scored efficiently...and the team was still out scored by 11!!!! That is some bad D...bad, bad D.

I saw the buzzer beater coming. As soon as Sasha failed that first inbounds, and I saw Mo tossing it in. I knew exactly what was going to happen. He got it off, you just had to know it was going in. I felt at one with the world watching that ball leave his hands. It was complete slow motion. I just have this feeling I'm going to have a deja vu moment in the playoffs with LBJ doing the same thing over Paul Pierce. You know you feel it coming. Will you be a witness?

Easy there, the Nike building is ----------> that way

I know I'm a little late, but.

Terrible decision Lebron.

Don't ever take a fade away 19 footer for a game winner, EVER, again.

That is all.

CAVS WIN!!

Not sure if anyone saw this, but this was in Windy's blog:

Right after James made the shot he yelled at Jackson: "Payback is a bitch," a retort from Jackson nailing a jumper over James a few seconds before to give the Warriors the lead.

Probably my favorite LeBron quote.

You sure are late, that 3-some must have really tied you down for awhile.

This team is magical. Get the Rally Pies ready.

32 :D

The play to get the last ISO for LeBron on Turiaf was drawn up by Mike Brown in the huddle (according to both Brown and LeBron). Brown described it as an old Bernie Bickerstaff play. It doesn't necessarily mean LeBron had to take a jumper but the plan was to get the mismatch on the big guy and that's what they got.

Postgame Interview with Brown and LeBron:

Windhorst wrote:

Just before the last play, Sasha Pavlovic made a terrible inbounds pass and the ball was knocked back out of bounds. This turned out to be lucky for the Cavs. The Warriors changed assignments and put Rony Turiaf on LeBron and Stephen Jackson on Andy Varejao. Because the Warriors switch on most picks, the idea was for the switch on a Varejao pick to put their best defender (Jackson) on LeBron with the angle to deny the entry pass. It worked but the fumble allowed the Cavs to take a timeout an reset things. The second time there was no pick and LeBron went to the corner and got the pass so he had the prefered matchup with Turiaf.

• So nice adjustment by Mike Brown and execution but at the end of the day it was a stepback jumper. Which is what LeBron would've taken no matter who was on him probably.

And, after the game this is what Don Nelson had to say:

On The Final Play:
“There was an error on the play. We were supposed to take that pass away on that out of bounds guy and there was an error there. It was a nice adjustment. It still shouldn’t have got completed there.

TK shocked me tonight he played pretty good and so did JJ minus getting blocked by the rim.:chuckles:

I kinda feel for JJ on the rim-block. Somebody, I think it was Maggette, was on the ground right under the hoop. It looked like JJ saw him and tried to avoid landing on him as he dunked. That's why you put it down with two hands and hang on the rim...

Hickson had to take off on his left foot, since Maggette's head was underneath his right foot. Because Hickson went up awkwardly, and it showed when he didn't finish.

A couple random thoughts from the rafters of Oracle Arena:

*Wally didn'embarrass himself offensively, but Maggette had his way with him defensively. I'm really starting to wonder who Wally CAN match up with defensively.

*Without Z we were forced to play small ball against the master, but Hickson impressed the home crowd. One guy sitting near me said something like: "LeBron's supporting cast sucks. Wallace... Varejao... none of them can score enough to get minutes on this team." I turned and laughed in his face.

*My friends I showed up with are all Warriors fans, so when LeBron would miss a shot, they would stare right at me and chant: "O-ver-at-ed." I would then lean over and whisper to each, individualy: "When I look back at this moment, I will laugh, and laugh, and laugh." I said it when the Cavs were down ten. I said it when Monta threw down a nasty dunk. I said it when Captain Jack nailed those two clutch mid-range shots for a one point lead.

And when LeBron deflated the rawdy, playoff-calibur crowd - well, what could I do but remind everyone that it was time to laugh, and laugh, and laugh. Great experience.
