Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The more info I get on Lavastida/Naylor the more I worry neither will be ready come 2023. But I guess if our baseline is Sandy Leon level production then they should be fine.
Lavastida will see some time this season and Fry might beat him to the punch. You won't see Naylor before 23 unless he just destroys baseballs in 22. So yeah, rostering and playing Leon makes about as much sense as it did last year.
Hence why I kind of wanted a McGuire/Ali Sanchez, someone we can trust defensively and has team control to be the backup long term until they are both ready.
For the love of God, this team needs some hitters and catcher has been a fucking offensive black hole for far too long. Now I realize handling a pitching staff is important and all, but Lavastida has received good reviews in that category. WTF would they want to trade for a couple more Hedges?

That’s such a strange projection. We were ravaged by injuries last year and won 80 games.

I don’t see a single spot on the field where we got worse than what we had last year.

Obviously, it’s baseball, and the range of possible futures for each team is pretty wide, but I think we’ll beat that projection quite easily.
This was my thinking as well.

But at the same time, it seemed like they were overachieving (as far as wins and losses) while they were healthy. June 24 they were 41-31 with only a +4 run differential.

The problem is we will have to be much better, and play much better to win those 80 games in 2022. That's because our division is MUCH improved.

Cold blooded.... -Dave Chapelle aka Rick James bitch!

When the baseline is a guy who closes his eyes when he swings, just about anyone is an improvement.

I am looking for a long term backup possibility that focuses on defense... Lavastida or Naylor are supposed to be the offense :p

I like Haniger. He's 31, so maybe if you can get him on a 2 year deal or something like that to bridge a gap. Certainly hits lefties better than righties.
I was thinking about this... Haniger could be a sneaky "buy low" guy considering age and injury/track record.. Depends on how his 2022 season plays out of course.

Julio Rodriguez and Kyle Lewis may make Haniger available much sooner than the playing out of the 2022 season.. Damn.. Julio has become a man.. that guy is built like a brick shit house and can really swing the lumber.. Given the reactive nature of the Seattle GM.. and their needs.. a surprising deal could be in the works..

We'll see..

Is Bo Naylor struggling in the minors? I haven't been following him much, but saw he was assigned to minor league camp the other day

He wasn't projected to be in the pros this season so no worries about him being assigned to the minor league camp, but he struggled with the jump to AA... I dont know exactly your baseball knowledge, but usually the jump to AA is the first big hurled for prospects and he didn't do very well. We need to watch him and how he recovers from the 21 season.
