Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just a hint.

Start with Plesac.
I'm not sure if this for real trade possibility, or extension...was guessing Civale might be sooner on extension front, but it is all good!

It's slightly below market value IMO, especially given it's 5 years and not more.

That said it's a great deal for everyone. We get our lifer and ownership gets it at a price that shouldn't cripple them going forward.

Love it and thank you Jose!!

And, look at the deal ... it doesn't front load anything ... so Dolan doesn't care (ain't his money).

Definitely a trade
How come we couldn't give Lindor a long term deal too?

How hard was it to lock up Jose and Lindor for the next 5 years?
Lindor turned down a $280 million extension pre-COVID. He was always intent on hitting the open market.

Wow ... it was real???
I call BS on that one. You're either negotiating a contract or you're negotiating a trade. Can't do both.
Besides. I couldn't even come up with an attractive return from the Padres anymore.

Also, raise your hands if you're happy you no longer have to read shitty MLBTradeRumors.com chats with Blue Jays reporters on how Cleveland won't extend Ramirez and this is the lowball offer Toronto can offer to get him.
A-fucking-men to that. I was so sick of that crap. Especially the ones with Kirk's fat ass as the main return.

Hard to extend a pitcher off a short season then an injury filled season. Too many pitchers just turn to dust suddenly to commit long term to one that hasn't at least pitched 180 innings the year before you do it.
It's probably a little deeper involved than that. If you look at the SP depth and the quality of it, it might be wiser to not risk an extension with Bieber and take a wait and see approach with those prospects performances.

The most interesting tidbit to me was regarding the trade reports leading up to this extension. Creating that smoke is a clear leverage tactic, but I wrongly assumed that it was the agents playing chicken with the front office. Sounds as if it may have been the rare full-court press from the TEAM side, knowing he really didn't want to up and move before opening day. Rare situation if that was the case.

Bieber is very likely to "bet on himself" IMO. Like Jose, he wants to play for his "team" - which will likely be a juggernaut and/or Cali team.. Again total opinion here.
