2022 Season | Series #10 | Guardians @ White Sox | May 9-11, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The gold standard for lead off guys in recent Cleveland history.. is Kenny Lofton.. No one comes close..

The closest on the current roster is Myles Straw.. The best way to determine alternatives.. is to put guys in that slot when Myles gets a day off his feet (unpopular with him) and see what they can do..

Within the Guardians system.. my best guess for Straw's lead off replacement might be Owen Miller immediately.. In the minors.. Brayan Rocchio, Richie Palacios and Petey Halpin are all right there, too..

Recent?

Many of the current players weren’t even alive when KLo was in his prime.

Making my damn self feel old now.

You can watch your Betamax recordings with the HI-FI interface of these games.... they are in color !!

I feel there only one player on this team, ( Kwan maybe in the near future) that would keep his normal approach to hitting no matter where you put him and the lineup and that’s Jose Ramirez ,,,,,,,Guys that bat 1-5 I believe put different pressure on themselves then player that bat 6-9 , people like Paul Sorrento/ Sandy Alomar were better 8/9 hitter then they would have been 4/5/6 hitter…..

According to ESPN Stats & Info, the Guardians were 1-626 when trailing by six or more runs in the ninth over the last 40 seasons.
Safe to say last night won't ever happen again, soak it in, high fives all around boys, we watched some once upon a time shit.

(I said the same thing after the comeback win vs Mariners)

With all due respect, Straw has the 4th highest OBP on the team and 49th in baseball. OK, 49th is not bad, but I don't see our 4th best at getting on base leading off.
Small sample sizes don't count.

Kenny Lofton lead off, and he was among the best in the business.

But in 1995, his OBP was FIFTH on the team.

By this way of thinking, the order should have been...

Thome
Manny
Belle
Murray

A poster pointed out about the game not being over because the Whitesox are just undisciplined as they come and there's always a chance because DHs are everywhere.

Hats off, those errors helped dramatically

Over/under # of runs this team would have scored last year getting a combined 0-15 night from Jose, Franmil, and Straw.

1.5
— Baseball Savant gave the Guardians a 0.2% chance of winning in the ninth inning.

In Naylor's 250 PA's last season, he tallied 21 RBI's

In Naylor's 73 PA's this season, he tallied 21 RBI's

Shows how important guys like Kwan, Miller, Straw have been for the clean up crew.
Yeah, but Naylor is batting .588 with RISP. It's not just having more runners on base. Last year he hit .182 with RISP. To me he seemed overly aggressive in those situations.

You'd think missing two-thirds of the season would negatively affect his hitting, but all those hours of having his Mom toss rolled up socks for him to hit while sitting in a chair is paying off.

I have to believe Valaika is making a difference because Naylor is not the only one that's hitting better than last year.

In all honesty, i think those odds are a bit high, that means 1 in 500. We went 626 games without a 6 run comeback in the 9th, but not for this one, we could easily gone another 626 games. That is some one in 1,000 or even 10,000 type crap that happened last night.

Naylor 2 home runs of 3+ homeruns the 9th or after has never ever been done in the history of baseball. Its such crazy shit.
