He had an excellent career and was absolutely an MVP level player in that 02-04 stretch. The problem is that he could've easily been so much more. He should have been the third best power forward of his generation (after Duncan and KG), but Dirk and even Amare were arguably better.

I would argue Dirk over KG. It's not even possible for someone to argue Webber over Dirk.

Ill disagree with you on the KG/Dirk, but thats a debate for another thread. My point is that CWebb should be above Dirk and in the same tier as Duncan. He is not.

@RchfldCavRaised, I got a kick with how Joon Lee led off with this article. :chuckle:

A lot of my wife's family lives in Guangzhou. Papa Johns and Pizza hut are white table cloth restaurants in China oddly enough. Guangzhou has awesome street food and none of it is brains or blood. KFC is straight up better in my opinion in china. They have rice plates, egg tart that is better than most places in California and I think their chicken taste better.

Appreciate the insight! Street food is a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful thing! That's an interesting tidbit regarding the chain fast food places and the bits of ritzy nature associated with them. The corporations probably dress them as an event/experience location to some extent in China?

Goodness... Hansbrough must've burnt through a higher percentage of his earnings than I thought with this context in mind. ;)

For some back to Draft talk, here is a thread on Reddit with fans from a variety of teams discussing Eason and Sochan.

Just random peoples opinions and regurgitations of things they may have read elsewhere but still also interesting to see perception on guys through the eyes of fanbases who may have similar or different team needs/holes than us.

I'm of the opinion that if Sochan and Eason are still on the board (assuming Daniels etc are gone), you take Sochan over Eason. As someone in that thread mentions, Eason really can't go left at all which will 1000% be much more exposed at an NBA level. Still would be very happy to walk away with Eason, but he's seems like a lot more of a project.

There is no way i'm taking Sochan ahead of Eason.

Easton to me is much more gifted defensively despite the overall reputation/consensus. His ability to generate steals all over the court, slide his feet like a boss, contest shots really effectively all triumph Sochan defensive chops. Sochan perhaps has the higher defensive IQ, but he looks sluggish to me compared to Eason. Both laterally and vertically. He uses his hands more to defend and it seems like players often get a step on him and he is somehow able to recover because of his size and the fact that he kinda uses his hands. Not sure it's going to go well in the NBA. Easton otoh, just slides his feet perfectly and not giving the player he is guarding a chance to do anything.

Yes, Eason can't go left and he can get tunnel vision as well. His shot needs work especially off the dribble. But Sochan's shot is even worse it seems.

Overall, I like Eason's projection much better. I think his body is better for a SF. I think he is more fluid and has better chance to become an off the dribble threat. I also like his chances of guarding 1-5 better than Sochan and could be a real mismatch nightmare offensively as well.

Between the two, i'm on team Eason.

Agreed with @Sir'Dom Pointer

Eason is the more natural and fluid athlete. Both have the "nasty" that Pop likes to see.

I believe we will see Eason able to switch onto 2s on the perimeter and truly be an interchangeable perimeter 3 whereas Sochan will have trouble until/unless his body transforms a little while he gets stronger. He has a primary 4 with some big ball 3 and small ball 5 body that reminds me of Marvin Williams both with his impact on games when he comes in and the way he is post centric on both offense and defense when he comes in. The one advantage Sochan has is he has shown a clear ability to create and initiate offense for others from the high post and even some facing up against bigger defenders ala Boris Diaw. I would be interested in seeing Diaws measurements against his, honestly. I didn't know he had that and wasn't prepared for that when they started leaning on him to come back in our tourney game.

Eason looks like Scottie Barnes as a athlete when he enters games. You want to put him at the head of your pressure and have him switch on everything and disrupt everything, find gaps to take open shots and crash the glass on offense. He doesn't have Scotties selflessness or ability to create off the bounce for others but Scottie would have been a clear top 2 pick if hebdemonstarted Taris development on his jumper, but athletically, they look like similar athletes and their length and athleticism finds the ball on defense.

Even with the year of age difference, I bank on Eason over Sochan and bank on Eason having a clearer role and more perimeter versatility

I also think Sochan will rise more than Eason and be drafted ahead of him. Sochan was impressive at the combine and is impressing a lot of lottery teams. Him and Daniels might be the two biggest risers.

Sochan has a more aesthetically pleasing form of athleticism that he’s been putting on display recently. I think that will ultimately get him drafted in the top 12. I could definitely see him in OKC for example.

Easons athleticism is not as pretty and flashy but he’s got the kind of athleticism that is deadly effective.

I actually think both guys will be excellent players. If Eason is gone and we took Sochan I wouldn’t be devastated. But I actually think it’s going to play out the other way.

Last comp and this one is solely on approach to the game and the way he mixes it up on the court...

He favors another Big12 6MOTY in his mental approach from Kansas...

Obviously bigger and not as explosive as an athlete but he matches the NASTY of Tsunami Papi down to a tee.

Smarter and more controlled and cerebral tha Oubre but Sochan has this wildcard and smart agitator element that makes me WANT to settle him into a 6th man role, allow him to assess what the team needs him to be on any given night, and then unleash him as a game changing aggressive agitator just as the starters start to settle in so he can tilt the scales for my team.

I'm not putting a ceiling on him as a reserve, just pointing out that so much of his impact on games were dependent on his above IQ mixed with aggressive approach to competing and was maximized by Drew as a really good reserve.

Ironically, Eason profiles athletically and stylistically to a better shooting and little smarter IQ Oubre as well. With Eason, I see him having the potential to be MORE though. Like really game changing defensive versatility and a seeming "want to" impact the game as a defender.

But something about Sochan's mental gives me Oubre with a better brain for the game in a bigger frame, right now.

I just read a comprehensive indictment against Bill Self players just filling a narrow role. Then Oubre comes up directly afterwards.

I have to admit to hating Kelly Oubre as a pro player for struggling to fit into more sophisticated schemes. He is a guy who can create a lot of deflections and get out and run in transition at his best. At his worst, he is a chucker who can get picked on in on-ball defense. That was fine for a second or third year player, but now he is just an annoyingly limited veteran.

I hope these rookies can surpass Oubre's limitations.

Without a doubt there is a strong pattern of Kansas players being spoonfed by the system and not growing beyond their limitations because of their collective success and the trajectory that sets them on for the next level. I wanted Oubre to turn the corner so badly because of his raw tools and so much promise as a impact reserve on those Washington playoff teams... but alas. He couldnt and hasnt taken off the Self training wheels.

The outlier is JoJo Embiid who was only scratching the surface when he stepped foot on campus. But there is a VERY noticeable dropoff from Roy's players developing as hungry players positioned to grow as better pros (Paul Pierce, Drew Gooden, Collison, Heinrich, Jacque Vaughn even turned a pedestrian but competitive college career and late first round pick into a 12 yr career and NBA coaching) against the list of guys from Self who just dont develop or grow beyond their limitations at the next level.

I believe the book is out on Self's kids.
