May 26: Placed OF Franmil Reyes (right hamstring tightness) on 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 25); selected contract of OF Oscar Gonzalez from Triple-A Columbus; recalled LHP Konnor Pilkington and OF Richie Palacios from Triple-A; designated INF Yu Chang for assignment
Reyes lands on the IL amid a slow start that has him slugging just .278 one season after he hit 30 roundtrippers. Pilkington was recalled to make Thursday's start. Chang appeared in just four games this season, going 0-for-10 with seven strikeouts.

His issue isn't the high heat, it's the slow ball...

Actually, I thought I saw Iowa try to get him with the slow offspeed down away and once he starts lunging .... rolling over, he tends to get jammed with high inside at the hands .... if he refuses to take walks, MLB pitchers will try to live at that 1-2 balls in and off the plate.

We will see what book Det has

Before I go to softball, I heard that Dolan was displeased with the FO due to not keeping fans happy and coming to the stadium.

Thus, when FO went to Dolan for more Arb money in 2 years for Reynolds, he told FO to do an informal poll. Based on RCF feedback, the trade of Chang, Oscar G, Freeman and Rosario was too much prospects per this board for a 3-1/2 year rental in Reynolds.

Thus, the reason for all the roster changes today. They did not plan on leaving 4 OF in Columbus (due to Palacios and Oscar call up). They are throwing out their analytics and giving this board what it wants in Oscar .... and Freeman once Rosario is traded. I know someone may not be happy but FO is finally listening to this board over analytics (sarcasm of course if not obvious).

You got it wrong, it was Zimmer, Chang, Older Allen and Bradley for Reynolds... get it right lol

I'm not convinced of this at all. He was thrown 2 very good breaking pitches and fouled them both straight back. He was on them and the one was close to leaving the yard. Look at his 31 HR from last season and tell me how many were breaking pitches. You'd be surprised. OGon is no different than any other hitter. He needs to be selective and do damage to mistakes while refraining from making weak contact on pitches out of the zone. Thinking about it he's kinda like Urshela while he was in Cleveland's system. Only OGon has a lot more power.

Start the clock on Oscar.

Can he translate to the big league off-speed and keep respectable numbers with regard to chasing out of the zone?

Interested to get a look at him in RF tonight as well.
So what did you think of his OF play AZ? He doesn't look like a gold glover, but is it safe to say he's better than Naylor in your opinion?

Good to see him get off to a good start offensively, but I'll temper my excitement until he gets a few more games under his belt.

I don't think Chang will pass

I couldn't care less and I hope someone claims him tbh, as I don't want him to block Fermin out of playing time. I fully believe Fermin would be a better fit in Cleveland than Yu.

Maybe we can even fetch a recent 2021 late rd draft selection for Chang. Some players I liked:
RHP Andrew Hoffmann - Braves 12th rd
RHP Braden Olthoff - Angels 9th
C Shane Mcguire - A's 9th
1B Thomas Francisco - Cards 19th
CF Braiden Ward - Rockies 16th

...or adding a TINSTAAPP to Chang for a better prospect.. e.g. Diego Benitez from the Braves.. It's a stretch.. to be sure..

So, I was a little sarcastic yesterday because I don't think people really saw the significance of the day. It was our 1/4 pole turn. We were 18-22 before last night and 7 games back. Now, I understand that we have had a harder schedule than our central opponents (.503 vs .492 ChS and .469 MT). Yet, guys, its middle of the league and we are now 2.5 games back of 500. It is not insurmountable but we went from 15% chance to make playoffs down to 10% per fangraphs. Even though 538 has us at 20%.... cubs and reds have a combine 10%.

There were also, 2 roster moves ... one was legit for Civale but did Reyes just get a tight hammy on our 1/4 point? Or, is it MY conspiracy theory that they made an organization change. Note what Bimbo said on Jet ... they didn't give him a shot out or '19 or '20 ST which messed with his mind and they are not going to make that mistake again, see Kwan. On the same day, Oscar gets his shot and they bench a vet that Tito doesn't do that often.

Even with, the division in sightline, we went younger (Palacios for Chang) even without injuries. Yet, we still think the Guardians will throw away years of tradition and

1) Do what 28 other teams havent done and get Reynolds
2) Trade for Frances ... even though Seattle is only few games behind us (4 games in loss column)
3) Not give our youngsters a chance even though they are sticking with Kwan ... even with struggles ... and just brought up a non-30 prospect just because fans wanted it ..

And, per Baseball reference, we now have the youngest team based on %s played by players (both hitting 26.2 and pitching 26.6).

And, I would say pitching is going to get younger. You have to look at how they use guys.... Chang only played once in 2 weeks before getting canned. Gose has 12 appearances in 40 games. But, that is only ahead of Allen Sr and Castro, McCarty and Tully .... even behind Santos even though here for more games on mlb roster. Since May 9th ... he has only pitched May 13 (down 11-6) and 24th (down 7-3).

When Kar comes back, he will be optioned down. Also note, Herrin was called up to AAA this week .... so now they have Miko and Herrin as possible 40 man additions.
