I don't even know where the athleticism talk comes from. Sochan is the typical college "power forward" type who's just big and long enough to bully meh NCAA opponents in the post, but who'll be too slow to guard NBA 2's/3's and too small to guard NBA bigs. We've seen tons of these guys.

He has no real burst with the ball and has a ground bound, awkward post game he won't be able to use in the League at all. To make matters worse, Sochan is a true non-shooter. When you make 59% of your free throws in college, you fucking suck.

Draft bloggers like to say guys like this just "need to work on their jump shots", as if it's trivial, and something they've never done before. Gimme a break. Shooting is the most important skill in today's NBA, and Jeremy Sochan can't shoot. Let's just accept that right now.
I have no idea where all the Sochan love is coming from. When I watched him at Baylor he didn't stand out at all. He's an average athlete. He has average size (the 6'10" 250 center from KU dwarfed him). He's a below average shooter. He doesn't handle the ball well or make good decisions. He's got a little nasty in him - which I like. But we have two ex G League guys on the roster that can do what he does. As we have already shown - you can get what he brings a lot cheaper than a lottery pick.

Don't really understand this....

I can understand "redundant skills" when you talk about the number of ballhandlers you need on a team at a time (e.g., Irving/Harden/Durant are less than the sum of their parts).

I understand that Sochan isn't as much of a shooter as we'd like -- neither, of course, are Eason/Dyson/Dieng who we are apparently considering.

But I don't think you can have "redundant skills" when it comes to defensive versatility. The offense gets to choose who they attack, and adding another player who can switch effortlessly will only help this team.

Eason , Daniels and Dieng ALL project as at least potentially good shooters. Sochan doesn’t. He’s sub 60% from the line.

He’s definitely an above average athlete with a really great physical profile. He’s gonna be a top 10 pick, and he definitely stood out. And his stock has skyrocketed since the combine where he measured extremely well and impressed scouts big time in scrimmages

Some guys can just play. Maybe Sochan is one of those. A lot of guys measure up, look good in a workout, but can’t play.

He must be showing something at workouts that didn't show up before hand.

If it ain't Dieng, give me Jalen Williams. I don't think Johnny Davis makes it to 14, as he would be on this list. And then everything past that point is OK, just don't take a center with the first rounder. Looking for a good 2-way playmaker in the 2nd round. Let's go!

What's not to like about dieng? Almost 7 feet, 18 years old, has the body type that can put on muscle, has a soft touch from three, decent dribble, long arms. Can he be a bust? Sure, but I'd rather swing for the fences, if he hits we're set.

The way I look at it, the Cavs were not even supposed to have this pick. So if they get a chance to hit a home run to make up for some of their fly balls in the last couple of years, I'm with it. Dieng is a scary proposition because it's all an upside gamble. Other prospects show you what you can do right now. Even Agbaji is what we hope we can see out of Okoro in a season or two. And for that matter, Okoro does have at least a couple years for the Cavs to work on.

Except for finding a backup guard that can give you some offense before Rubio comes back I think the Cavs can just run it back and see what happens.

I think my (Cavs specific) board for #14 goes something like:

(Holmgren/Smith/Ivey/Banchero/Murray/Sharpe)
Griffin
Mathurin
Dieng
Daniels
Davis
Sochan
Eason
Branham
Terry ?
Agbaji ?

I'd be fairly happy with anybody up to Branham...

I've really been wrestling with this pick for quite a while. As I've stated a few times, and maybe you all are aware, I don't think very favorably of our chances drafting a guy that's going to provide much impact. It's why I've been very much against pigeonholing us into locking onto a wing. The odds, history, stats, etc.. just don't point to a favorable outcome for someone drafted around 14.

So, with that being said, I think I've locked into the following as my ideal outcomes:

1. Try like hell to trade UP to the 6, 7, or 8 range in order to take Dyson Daniels. I'm usually not a big fan of moving up that far in drafts, because it's going to cost A LOT to do so. But if there is a package focused on picks, Okoro, and Sexton, plus whatever combo of Osman, Windler, Wade, Stevens, etc.. that would possibly interest one of those teams, I believe Daniels is the real deal and worth it to sacrifice several future assets to do so. Chances of happening have to be rather miniscule, as I'm sure teams in that range are looking for much better returns, but I'm not giving up this dream without one last fight.

2. This one's not going to be popular, but remember that I have serious doubts about a guy taken at 14 ever panning out. Trade the pick in a package for a current NBA player. I'm not necessarily saying 1 for 1 swaps, some would cost more and others we would need pieces alongside of, but here is a list of some of the guys I would have interest in: OG, Harrison Barnes, Powell, Hart, Bogdanovic, Hayward, Barton, etc..

3. Trade down and pick up a 2023 first rounder. Simply said, I want more shots at hitting on guys if we keeps the picks and more tradeable assets if not.

4. Stay at 14 and take BPA, regardless of position. Yes, that means that if even Keegan Murray, Mark Williams, Duran, TyTy, Johnny Davis, are the top of the Cavs board? You take them and worry about positional fit later. I'd rather have a rock solid backup 1, 4, or 5 than be so laser focused on finding the perfect starting SF that we draft a guy who likely never will pan out. Now, hopefully the BPA turns out to be a wing and everything turns out perfectly, but I'm certainly not locking that take in as the only option.

As for my BPA? I think my current list, which is likely going to change as the week progresses, looks something like this:

Tier 1
Smith
Holmgren
Banchero

Tier 2
Ivey
Murray
Daniels
Sharpe

Tier 3
Mathurin
Duren
Sochan

Tier 4
Griffin
Mark Williams
Dieng

Tier 5
Branham
Eason
Washington

Tier 6
Davis
Agbaji
Beauchamp
Terry

Tier 7
Jalen Williams
Hardy
Liddell
Jovic

In case anyone cares for my thoughts, I still have my priorities as:

1. Trade up (DYSON PLEASE!)
2. Trade for current NBA wing
3. Trade down and pick up 2023 first
4. Stay at 14

However, my big board has updated a little bit.

Tier 1
Smith
Banchero
Holmgren

Tier 2
Ivey
Daniels
Murray
Sharpe

Tier 3
Mathurin
Sochan
Duren

Tier 4
Dieng
Griffin
Mark Williams

Tier 5
Branham
Eason
Davis

Tier 6
Agbaji
Washington
Beauchamp
Terry

Tier 7
Jalen Williams
Jovic
Hardy
Liddell
