I've really been wrestling with this pick for quite a while. As I've stated a few times, and maybe you all are aware, I don't think very favorably of our chances drafting a guy that's going to provide much impact. It's why I've been very much against pigeonholing us into locking onto a wing. The odds, history, stats, etc.. just don't point to a favorable outcome for someone drafted around 14.
So, with that being said, I think I've locked into the following as my ideal outcomes:
1. Try like hell to trade UP to the 6, 7, or 8 range in order to take Dyson Daniels. I'm usually not a big fan of moving up that far in drafts, because it's going to cost A LOT to do so. But if there is a package focused on picks, Okoro, and Sexton, plus whatever combo of Osman, Windler, Wade, Stevens, etc.. that would possibly interest one of those teams, I believe Daniels is the real deal and worth it to sacrifice several future assets to do so. Chances of happening have to be rather miniscule, as I'm sure teams in that range are looking for much better returns, but I'm not giving up this dream without one last fight.
2. This one's not going to be popular, but remember that I have serious doubts about a guy taken at 14 ever panning out. Trade the pick in a package for a current NBA player. I'm not necessarily saying 1 for 1 swaps, some would cost more and others we would need pieces alongside of, but here is a list of some of the guys I would have interest in: OG, Harrison Barnes, Powell, Hart, Bogdanovic, Hayward, Barton, etc..
3. Trade down and pick up a 2023 first rounder. Simply said, I want more shots at hitting on guys if we keeps the picks and more tradeable assets if not.
4. Stay at 14 and take BPA, regardless of position. Yes, that means that if even Keegan Murray, Mark Williams, Duran, TyTy, Johnny Davis, are the top of the Cavs board? You take them and worry about positional fit later. I'd rather have a rock solid backup 1, 4, or 5 than be so laser focused on finding the perfect starting SF that we draft a guy who likely never will pan out. Now, hopefully the BPA turns out to be a wing and everything turns out perfectly, but I'm certainly not locking that take in as the only option.
As for my BPA? I think my current list, which is likely going to change as the week progresses, looks something like this:
Tier 1
Smith
Holmgren
Banchero
Tier 2
Ivey
Murray
Daniels

Tier 3

Tier 5

Tier 6

Terry
Tier 7

Hardy
Liddell
