2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Okay, I was doing a little research with trying to find comparables to the Castillo trade and I happen to notice... Davis Sharpe has been putting up some good numbers at A ball...

@MadThinker88 @BimboColesHair @Tondo @petes999 or whoever can answer this question...

Is this guy a candidate relief pitcher for Cleveland in a few seasons? Also is there any sleeper relief arms in the minors right now that we dont really know about?
Sharpe is definitely RP material unless his change up improves to better than it is now.. he's essentially a two pitch pitcher (FB/SL)... both hard & harder than they were when he was drafted.. He fills up the strike zone with those two pitches..

W/R to another comparable to him in the Guardians minor league system, that could be Mason Hickman.. another SP ===> RP type with two strong pitches (FB/CB) that he fills up the strike zone with.. but "not much" (read: movement, deception, swing and miss stuff) on either of his secondaries (SL/CH).. Both of these guys are long/lanky with big frames that portend better / higher / longer lasting velos and refinement as they mature.

There are others...

For those that didn’t see it .... MT pointed out Cantillo is starting today in Akr. And,

So, only Espino and Hankins still sidelined.

Second half MLB reliever or we keeping him in the minors as a starter?

Keep him in the minors to stretch out. They are going to need someone more than Pilk to eat innings come Sept. Both McK and Quant may hit some innings limit those last few weeks (and another reason I don't see us as serious buyers).

I thought Hankins was throwing in Arizona like Morris was.

He was suppose to a week ago or so and got pulled from the start due to illness or something.
That's right Pete! I forgot about that and it did read illness so I wasn't overly concerned. Thanks!

Morris has the upside and stuff to be a ML starter.. four or five pitches that he controls and commands defines the repertoire of a starter.. That said.. being healthy.. hasn't been one of the skills in his repertoire that he's exhibited.. By not being healthy.. Morris has brought in the risk of becoming an RP.. It wouldn't be the worst thing.. but, his potential is much MUCH higher..

We'll see...

I came across an interview between an minor league evaluator Jeremy Booth and a Houston sports media commentator where they continue to lament passing up drafting Bo Naylor and selecting Seth Beer one pick prior in the draft. Talent evaluator goes off on Astros and is effusive in his praise of Naylor beginning at the 15:10 mark of the video. The talent evaluator also later praises the Indians selection of Daniel Espino and argued the Astros missed the boat on both guys. Interesting interview, especially for draftniks.

Any chance Benson is a trade deadline guy? Hate to just see him rot here. Needs to be on a team like the Red Sox, Dodgers or Rays who would use him. Maybe the Rays have another mediocre pitcher that intrigues the FO...

I see Neto has already logged a hit in his pro debut. I assume with the post-draft news that DeLauter was 100% that he'll play this year as well, no?

I'd really love to see what he can do. Does he start in Lynchburg? What about Campbell, Lampe, and Parker M?

I think we see Benson get a shot at the big leagues this year.

I think the organization is telling us everything we need to know with the way they've used Benson and Freeman in the minors. They're both getting call-ups this year.

I expect Benson to come up and get plugged in at 1B, with Franmil getting demoted once Naylor returns from injury. I expect Freeman to take utility everyday AB's.

I hope you are right. He's done everything he needs to do to get a chance. Next they need to trade Ahmed to open up ABs for Freeman.

Since we're so close to a competitive race down the stretch, Amed won't be traded unless the offer wows us. We'll try to move him in the offseason.

I expect Freeman to be first in line for the utility ABs that currently go to Miller and Clement.
