2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dicky likes to claim that posters root against Cleveland players/prospects while half of his posts are railing about Straw.
Those are rookie numbers. TBH last I checked my stats it was way more than half.

Who is this mythical poster who is arguing against Benson?

Keep tilting at windmills, Don

I think we're all enjoying Benson's recent success. He was a major project when he was drafted, he busted his ass to completely re-work his swing, and even though it hurt him in the short term, he stuck with it. It's now paying dividends and the kid's future is looking bright.

And, to add to this ... Everybody was blasting him because the work he did in the cage did not translate to the field (he pressed too much for the fences as I said Oscar did last year but started to fix in ST - use raw power to hit the fence only) ... even per our inside expert. Thus, when he is hitting .230/.250/.244 early in the season some people started paying attention and you can point to SO/BB ratios improving as further evidence. But, even our expert was saying in early season that out of Oscar and Bension ... Oscar had the most upside in sticking with the Tribe and Benson had the most upside on having at least a long career as a journey man 4th outfielder. Yet, our expert still pointed to Jones and Valera as standing in the way of both Oscar and Benson.

Now, even with .244 in June, you can see in 21 June games, Benson went without a hit in only 3 games. In July, he has only had 1 0fer but his average is .385. In 2nd half of June, he was 12 for 44 or .272. Even if July was .300, a .272 and .300 in month and half would be enough to say he should be in the conversation of the next call up (I would taken him over Call lefty/righty issue be damn - but that was a short term issue with Oscar on DL and Jones up and needing consistent ABs). If he can sustain .300 into mid to late-August, it is definitely worthy of a shot and Rule 5 roster over Call and even Brennan and maybe Palacios who BHC and I are high on. Brennan is still more consistent but not Power but this is a good problem to have of too many OFers.

Just wondering ... he was in CF last night instead of 1B. But, I have Reyes as a possible trade (doubt we get enough now to pull trigger but in offseason most definitely a possibility). I am wondering if Benson is getting 1B work (along with Jones probably in pre-game) as they are starting to see Reyes as just a short-term filler only (as I pointed out in a payroll post). Thus, if we can move Naylor to DH 1/2 the time with either Jones, Benson or Miller getting reps (note the order), it solves adding Benson to Rule 5 - in Reyes place. Just saying. Lot more season to figure it out.

But, to say that people were blasting him unfairly and need to eat crow is just being an .... you get the point. People are wrong all the time ... even the professionals.

One of the reasons Call is up here is because he is expendable.

At this time of year, a team has to have some flexibility at the bottom of its 40 man, in case additions are made to upgrade the active roster.

We talk about protecting prospects from the R5 in December, but you have to protect them in August, too.

If the bottom of the 40 man was filled with nothing but real prospects, we'd lose one almost every time we upgraded the active roster.

Just for fun, lets say we made a trade like the Yankees did....pick up Benintendi for three prospects not on our 40 man.

Better to jettison Call than a prospect we'd prefer to protect.

Why is this guy untouchable, I understand he broke a bone in his hand and his rookie ball year....but I’m still not seeing the next great prospect, I’m hope I’m wrong , we need a budding superstar in the outfield in the worst way.......That why I’m still holding out for Benson.....

For those interested, here was Benson prospect video. I know it is BP but your can see the head turning where you can't see his face after swing and a lot of leg movement early on. I did a video clip of his game 2 nights ago and the leg and bat movement are still there during the wind-up but the head is staying on the ball/plate all the way through the swing. I will try to edit it down during tonight's game and post some of it here tonight.

I'm gonna assume that they are managing Williams' IP being the reason he only went 3 tonight.

Gotta keep his innings down so he can be the third starter for the big league club in September/October.

Not necessarily...
He was pitching in the 4th inning and the 2nd batter (after a walk) hit a sharp line drive to 3B deflected by the pitcher (per the game trak).
Sounds like a line drive OFF the pitcher to the third baseman.

Williams was immediately replaced after that at-bat.. Fingers crossed its nothing serious...

Okay, I was doing a little research with trying to find comparables to the Castillo trade and I happen to notice... Davis Sharpe has been putting up some good numbers at A ball...

@MadThinker88 @BimboColesHair @Tondo @petes999 or whoever can answer this question...

Is this guy a candidate relief pitcher for Cleveland in a few seasons? Also is there any sleeper relief arms in the minors right now that we dont really know about?

Thanks Mad! Hopefully he is ok.
