This is a minor change, but Asst Coach Mike Gerrity, who coached the Cavs summer league team, was named HC of the Charge and Charge HC Dan Geriot was named an Asst Coach with the Cavs after serving in the role from 2019-2021 and then a year as HC with the Charge. It seems like they are using the Charge HC position as a developmental team for more than just its players.

KR: The Cavs made this move to accelerate their progress and officially move out of the rebuild. With Mitchell on the roster, what do you see as Cleveland’s ceiling?
TJ: I think they are a piece short as presently constituted. There’s too much of a shooting deficit from the wing spots. But the beauty of the Cavaliers’ situation right now is that they have a young and dynamic core with multiple all-NBA talents that are each under contract at minimum for three seasons. This core is good enough to attract veteran talent with a midlevel exception or two down the road. For this season, they certainly have top six upside in the Eastern Conference. But they also have the benefit of time as the teams currently in front of them begin to age out.
In a season where half the league is going to be in full-on tank to try and get Wem-Bam-Thankyou-Mama, I kind of hope the Cavs can even find a club willing to give away a productive vet SF so the other squad can get shittier.

I think it's definitely possible. Everyone talks about how tough the East's top 9 teams are - hard to go 3-1 or better against too many of those teams. But it comes down to who beats up the bad teams the most. Going 4-0 against bottom dwellers in your conference and 2-0 for the West. Winning on the road against non-playoff teams. Playing up to your competition when the moment calls for it - but not playing down to your competition at other moments.

Plus, having the best record in the east doesn't mean being the best team. Winning 55 games being a 1 seed doesn't mean you will beat Milwaukee, Boston, or even Brooklyn in a 7-game series this year. Somehow fans understand this once the season starts - "yeah, they have a good record and will keep winning in the regular season, but I think they'll struggle in the playoffs". But preseason, we talk like the order in the standings is everything. Standings mean even less in this bunched east.

I don’t like this talk of teams ahead of us aging out. Waiting for a team like Boston to “age out” is foolish, they are also very young. We made the big move - no more waiting in line, our future starts now!
