2022 Season - Week #2 - Jets @ Browns - 9/18 1pm CBS

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I tell you what, going back and re-watching it, I think Stefanski deserves a significant amount of heat for not going into the victory formation after Hunt’s final run.

3 kneeldowns from 1:55 takes the clock to zero.
Yo, if this is true, holy fuck.

So if we're going to absolve Woods of any blame....

Do we get rid of Ward, Delpit, JJ3, and Newsome next year?

I'm not fond of the scheme but that's not the major problem. The problem is continuing to call coverages where guys need to absolutely 100% understand their roles - in the most CRITICAL positions. Maybe the terminology is too confusing? The coach HAS to fix it one way or another and in year 3, Woods clearly hasn't.

Again, this is YEAR THREE. This was against JOE FLACCO. Completely inexcusable.
The problem is also poor play calling.

If you don't mix it up, you're garbage. Flacco and everyone on the planet knew what defense we'd be in every damn play.

Mix it up. Go man occasionally. Make the QB uncomfortable. That's your job.

Woods is a dummy who hears that cover 2 and cover 4 is the answer, so doesn't deviate from it.

I'm done with him. He'll never be good enough to win a championship.

I will always sooner blame the coach than the player in this instance

at the same time, like God damn man. 99.9% means you lose 1 in 1000 times. Obviously Woods magnified those odds, but even an onside kick is what, a 5% shot?

I'm sympathetic to the optics of it from a non-emotional stance

but man, why can't he just play prevent defense in times when the only reason not to is some weird ego thing? That touchdown was just so over the top bad from every single way you look at it.

Delpit and Ward choked. I am trying to remind myself that Delpit was a "big nickel" most of 2021, and while he has the skills for free safety it's new to him.

Delpit is going to get destroyed by PFF this week.

They arent beating the steelers next week either so… yeah . Not good.
I think we will beat the yinzers, but we will hve a solid 10 days to think what ifs on potentially being 3-0

Bengals offensive line looks as bad as last year.

Burrow will never make it out alive.

If we really had 1st down with 1:55 then I agree, KS is better than that. I didn't think the Chubb run was on 1st down though, but I'm probably wrong.
I was masochistic enough to go back and check. On the previous play, Kareem Hunt picked up the first down but was unable to stay in bounds (not blaming him, it would've been very difficult for him to stay in bounds) so we had to run an extra play before the two minute warning. It was 1st and 10 with 2:02 left when the Chubb TD run started.

If we take a knee, the clock stops for the two minute warning and we have 2nd and 11 with 2:00 on the clock. If Chubb takes a knee before crossing the goal line then we have 1st and goal going into the two minute warning and we can run out the clock.

Most reasonable people will not pin this on Chubb though. Unfortunately, I would bet that Chubb is going to be replaying that moment again and again in his head and beating himself up over it.

It’s not just one thing that cost us that game. We made so many errors in that last 2 mins. I mean, missed extra point, blown coverage, blown onside kick, blown coverage on the game winning drive. I mean if any of those go are way we win. Fuck, how did he miss that extra point. (When he missed it, I told me wife, typically that cost us a game but this game is over and does not matter) then we lose.

Appreciate you looking that up

Ok so Stefanski's off the hook as the Browns could not kneel it out.

Hunt was pushed out of bounds with 2:02 to go and not 2:00.

To clear the record, the Chubb TD run started at 2:02, not 1:55. Sure if Chubb goes down at the 1, they could have run the clock out, but not before then.

Edit: @bs80 beat me to it

I too told my wife it's over after that.

Nice to know you share the blame with me for this soul crushing loss.

:chuckle:
