Myles Garrett : NFL 2023 DPOY

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd like for the take to be all of us should be treated better instead of Myles should be treated worse.
Is it being treated poorly or facing consequences for illegal and dangerous behavior?

Myles will not be held accountable in a meaningful way by his employer or the law (with a suspended license). That’s not fair, it’s not right, and it’s not a deterrent against his reckless behavior.

Aren't we talking about salaries being paid or withheld and the financial implications of short term disability???

I agree with the idea that Myles shouldn't get paid for a personal injury of his own doing. The thought of getting paid millions of dollars a week unable to do your job due to your own personal action sucks. If I was Jimmy and had to write the check, I would be pissed. On the other hand, pro sports players also don't accrue sick days or PTO like normal workers.

I have a number of hours per sick and vacation time per month, with sick time capped at over 1,000 hours available to use. I can burn all those hours as long as I have a doctor's note. The only issue is when those hours run out. If it is a non work-related injury, I go to inactive status with no pay. If work-related, I also have on the job injury hours to use.

If this was a multiple car accident or the passenger had sustained life-threatening injuries, I think the charges and way the accident is portrayed would be different.

The legal issue is a little more difficult. What would the average person be charged with in this situation, other than failure to control a motor vehicle and maybe speeding since Myles admitted to it? There are plenty of stories of people I know getting out of situations because they are famous, know someone in the PD, have an FOP card or show a little cleavage and flirt. Plenty of videos out there of judges or police pulled over and let go with a warning where you or I would be in the back of the cruiser. Should everyone be held accountable with points/fines the same? Yes. But we know it doesn't happen.

I’m not. I was agreeing with his point that normal rules and consequences don’t apply to superstar athletes like Garrett.

He’s got a documented track record of illegal and dangerous behavior. And his consequences have been a few citations/fines. Fines that are cumulatively like $20 to him relative to his income.

The set of consequences a “normal person” would face for this same series of actions is FAR different. Including that specific example of needing to use PTO/take short term disability/whatever. But personally I’m more bothered by the legal consequences that seemingly don’t apply to him.

I’m not.
Cool.

"I have to pay for short term disability insurance so that if I do something stupid like Myles I have to use all of my PTO then utilize insurance to fill in the gap. Which is honestly how it should be. This injury has nothing to do with the browns or his work function"

That is what I was referring to.

If you want to push for criminal fines in this country being proportional to the individual's wealth, like they do in Finland, I am 100% on board with that.

Will his teammates hold him accountable?

In a close game, it is can be argued his absence can be the difference between a win and a loss.

Like today. The D had one sack.

Dude routinely flouts the law.

Is this the incident that finally pounds the lesson home?

I will say, I've brought up some of the stuff I've done but definitely learned from it. I have tried to make that point in my posts.

One other thing is super cars are so fast now that it gets guys into that much more trouble than a car made just 10-15 years ago. The Porsche 911 turbo s that Myles Garrett has goes 0-60 in 2.2 second. That's the second fastest car that car and driver ever tested. It's also pretty accessible to anyone who has the money to buy it. Some of the fastest supercars or hypercars of the past weren't accessible by alot of younger buyers because they were so exclusives that you needed to have decades of being a loyal buyer of the brand to even get invited to buy one.
It's an insanely fast car. I rode in one at Watkins Glen last summer with a professional driver and the acceleration is mind bending. Most fast cars will accelerate hard at lower revs, but as the speed builds they feel like they're running out of speed- like a flattening power curve. Pretty normal. This Porsche felt like it never stopped accelerating. Almost like a linear line.

My main thought after getting out was "I cannot believe that they'll sell one of these to anybody who can afford one."

Is it alright to be pissed off at this guy now?

We have a backup LT coming to town and his need for speed might keep him out again and this one really hurts the team. We should've beat Atlanta without him.

It's time for the guy to be game changer and come up clutch in wins. And also help stopping the run.

Have I just missed his coming out and owning this in a meaningful way? I understand if the media hasn’t covered it as such because that’s not juicy drama, so I’m genuinely asking.

I don’t care if it was an animal, driving too fast, road head, or whatever the hell. Own up that you need to be better *for your teammates*.

Since when do players on this team own up for their mistakes made off the field? Maybe he is just following DeShaun Watsons example here and this is his leadership style.

He did a press conference last week where he addressed the topic at length.

Micha Parsons has Demarcus Lawrence.

TJ Watt has Cam Heyward.

Aaron Donald has Leonard Floyd.

Joey Bosa has Khalil Mack.

Nick Bosa has Arik Armstead.

Myles Garret has Jadeveon Clowney on 1 year deals and absolutely not DT yet he has been at worst the 3rd most productive pass rusher since he's entered the league.

It's beyond annoying when people complain that he isn't single handedly as productive as these other pass rusher with much better side kicks.

And on top of that he's still right at the top of the list at the end of every season. I figured I'd point this out after watching Parson AND Lawrence feats on the LAR O-Line. Clowney is good but is he as good as any of the #2 on any of those teams? Do we not have one of the worst DT rooms in the league?

Bosa has had Mack for all of 3 whole games

Clowney is a pretty great edge

Just a super homery post

Myles is handled with the kiddiest of kid gloves as los expertly demonstrated

No matter what happens he is always #1 and he could never be doing more

And before he had Mack he had Melvin Ingram. The fact is that of all the top pass rushers Myles has the worst #2 and Clowney is good. Is he as good as the #2 on all of those other lines? No. Yet Myles is still at the top of the list at the end of every season.
