Myles Garrett : NFL 2023 DPOY

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
And before he had Mack he had Melvin Ingram. The fact is that of all the top pass rushers Myles has the worst #2 and Clowney is good. Is he as good as the #2 on all of those other lines? No. Yet Myles is still at the top of the list at the end of every season.
I think clowney is better than Heyward

I think Clowney is better than Armstead

I think Clowney is better than Lawrence

I seriously have no idea what you’re talking about. You just want to do anything to make sure Myles has as many excuses as possible

I don't think Clowney is a strong pass rusher.

I also don't agree with Los's premise.

I think the entire line matters--and the DTs next to your edge matter more than the opposite edge.

It's no surprise to me that Myles had his best year last year with the Maliks actually being okay in the middle and a healthy Clowney on the other side. Making the offense pay when you double team Myles is a key to unlocking him.

If you don't have talent next to him, you're basically wasting 20M a year.

Also, for as good as Myles is, he's always been poor against the run. Wish he'd get better at that.

Herbert was very quick getting rid of the ball all game. He had nobody in his face and he had open receivers and outlets on almost every throw. When he didn't he had an open lane to escape up the middle of the pocket or he was on a roll-out away from Myles.

In spite of this Myles was inches away from several strips and he hurried Hebert several times. Not a horrible game, not the best.

Bosa has had Mack for all of 3 whole games

Clowney is a pretty great edge

Just a super homery post

Myles is handled with the kiddiest of kid gloves as los expertly demonstrated

No matter what happens he is always #1 and he could never be doing more

It's pretty easy to just look at the boxscore and complain, or "not remember hearing his name being called."

I’m all for fair criticism, but watch this play. Watch it in slow motion. What is Myles not doing here? What should he be doing different?

One DT gets owned so hard that he's shoved into Clowney and gets in his way, the other DT runs straight up the field and gets blocked outside the hash mark, leaving absolutely no one in front of Herbert.

Myles completely beats his man. Severely, actually. Looks like he even gets his hand on Herbert. Myles forces Herbert to step up. Since our DTs aren't doing their job, Herbert has a clear lane to step up and run. If just one of our DTs are doing their job on this play and force Herbert to hesitate at all, he has nowhere to go and Myles likely gets a sack.

How can both your DTs wind up outside the hash marks when they both lineup inside? That's just shitty line play.

This was happening all game. I'm sure you can pinpoint times where Myles fucked up, but I just don't know what people expect him to do here. It's like getting pissed at a QB when his receivers drop 20 passes.

When TJ Watt does this Cam Heyward is waiting in that gap to slow up the QB enough for Watt to get the sack. Arik Armstead is right there for Bosa. Aaron Donald is actually in the middle lololololol Micha Parsons has Demarcus Lawrence on the opposite side and you can't double both of them.

You're right that these types of plays happen every game but on our team we just don't have the other top tier guys like these other top pass rushers do and fans don't see that. They see box scores and people in the media who don't actually break the game down.

And that similar scenario happened a bunch of times today, Myles was on Hebert's heels on a lot of occasions.

It's not even about having another top tier guy. Just need guys that can play their assignments. If our DL plays like they did today against the Ravens, Lamar's going to run for 150 yards.

Micha Parsons has Demarcus Lawrence.

TJ Watt has Cam Heyward.

Aaron Donald has Leonard Floyd.

Joey Bosa has Khalil Mack.

Nick Bosa has Arik Armstead.

Myles Garret has Jadeveon Clowney on 1 year deals and absolutely not DT yet he has been at worst the 3rd most productive pass rusher since he's entered the league.

It's beyond annoying when people complain that he isn't single handedly as productive as these other pass rusher with much better side kicks.

And on top of that he's still right at the top of the list at the end of every season. I figured I'd point this out after watching Parson AND Lawrence feats on the LAR O-Line. Clowney is good but is he as good as any of the #2 on any of those teams? Do we not have one of the worst DT rooms in the league?
I'm not criticizing Garrett, but this is a poor argument.

Garrett is now in Year 2 with Clowney and had Olivier Vernon the two years prior.

Leonard Floyd had 7 sacks in two seasons playing next to Khalil Mack and signed a 1 yr $5m deal before breaking out playing next to Aaron Donald.

It's disappointing to not see Myles get sacks every game. Hell, even if Myles pressure led to someone else getting a sack that would be amazing. But the line isn't really helping that. You see Myles get double and tripped and kind of worked out of the play. And the other guys just don't do much and the QB slips away or is able to find a target.

Frankly it does seem like a big miss to NOT have invested more in the line to make it a strength. Considering Woods defense is more based on natural pressure from the line, I find it confusing more focus hasn't been put here. I understand trying to let some young guns figure it out. But there are ways to do that in a rotation with some vets that can help Myles and, to some degree, Clowny. Really want to see this front office really get after the line and fix this going forward.

That's a valid argument for that particular play. But there were a lot of other plays where he didn't beat his man like that.

What’s the excuse here

I just don’t get it. People are expecting him to play three or more positions?

Not sure who’s lined up at DT next to him, but he gets blown out of the picture immediately after the snap of the ball and is getting blocked 7 yards downfield by the time Ekeler runs by him. Winfrey gets blocked into him. Phillips is getting blown out of the hole and is blocked out to the 20 yard marker. No LB filling a hole to make a tackle.

If, in order to be a good defense, we need Myles to stop a running play on the opposite side of the field when our DTs are getting blown off the screen and our other defensive end is running himself out of the play by running straight up the field, then we are royally fucked.

The crazy thing is, if Winfrey just takes on his block instead of trying to run around it, Myles might be able to make that play.

This play was Winfrey's to make. He whiffed.
