Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wife and I just watched "The Volcano", a Netflix documentary about the 2019 eruption in New Zealand. Very well made, and rather horrifying in parts.

One thing I really appreciated about it was that it didn't waste the first 15-20 minutes with a bunch of setup and background information. You started off pretty much right with the people on the actual island.

8/10

I mean, this is interesting and all, but did you pull the trigger on that new Tesla, yet?

The whale 8/10 Fraser is brilliant and will win the Oscar. Score is also brilliant. Everything else was lacking. Still enjoyable though

Uh, yeah.

Avatar was… really, really good.

The plot was massively better, and if there was a way to somehow be even better visually, it somehow happened.

7/10 plot, 10/10 visuals. Solid 9?
Just saw it and I don't get it. It's 13 years after Avatar 1, and that movie would still be groundbreaking if released today.

And even with 13 years and the audience conditioned to expect unbelievable visual technology from the film, he comes out with something even more impressive than the first?

Right after the film ended, I felt like no one had ever done underwater scenes properly before this. Everything about the underwater scenes were just spectacular, it's a must watch in theaters just for that. With the high frame rate trick some of the swimming scenes felt like an ad for TVs at best buy, but they were so breathtaking that I didn't mind at all.

Perfect explanation.

I went in hearing it looked amazing, and that was probably an undersell.

Left thinking what the fuck did I just see? From a visuals standpoint, probably the best movie ever made. It’s spectacular.

I hated UHF as a kid. HATED it. I liked Wierd Al songs growing up, my older brother was an early adopter of the Nerd Kings music; but when my 10 year old self watched that movie I was just annoyed. Wheel of Fish? Just gross and stupid. Kramer's character was just irritating. I was angry that they did the firehouse thing to some poor unsuspecting kid. And also for the record: we had a kids show in AZ at the time called Wallace and Ladmo; to me, it was like an evil version of their show (it was nowhere near as bonkers but I was a kid), and I loved that show; even got on for a Ladmo Bag bc of my older bro. Kind of felt like they were picking on them; which they weren't, but again, I was 10. I've honestly never been able to bring myself to watch it again, because it's ingrained as being so dorky, over the top and annoying I just can't do it.

And one last thing: let's not act like Wierd Al was cool, the kids I knew that listened to him were all dorks like me. I just don't buy it when people claimed they liked him as kids. Maybe he became ironically hip after Amish Paradise, but from 1980s up to early 90s, he was 100% nerd. No chic.

Nerd culture is pop culture now.

It still feels weird. I don't think I'll ever get used to it.

Do you remember how much kids would get picked on for being a dork if they were into comic books? Now Marvel is the pinnacle of pop culture.

And don't even get me started on anime

Same with video games. They were a nerd thing when I was a kid but now every dude plays at least Call of Duty, FIFA, or Madden if nothing else.

You’re angry about the kid taking the firehose to the face, but not Raul’s repeated and failed efforts to teach poodles to fly?

I’m more concerned about the political ramifications of Ghandi becoming a beef eating, Ferrari driving vigilante who casually murders street thugs.
