I'm glad to see Alex English mentioned here. He was a great player, sort of like Demar Derozan, a great mid-range shooter. By 'great' I mean he averaged in the high 20-points-per-game for 10 years or more. He doesn't get much recognition as an all-time-great wing because his teams never won a title.

more than his potential, it could be a glimpse on what should be the most optimized team construction we should have and that is probably breaking up the twin towers to cater to more shooting and spacing. Unless Allen magically develops a 3, we need all the space to give to Mobley.

I, for one, think it is better for Mobley to continue develop his inside and mid range game rather than force being a 3 pt threat to accommodate Jarrett.

The problem is we’re best defensively with JA and Evan…Not sure how we replace the defense lost if we don’t have JA

Hes a very difficult player to analyze offensively. On one hand, he has a very soft touch and he sorta glides up and down the court. On the other hand, he cant effectively dribble and his release is pretty damn slow. He also isnt explosive, but he does finish in the paint. I am very curious to see his development in the long run.

He is very springy. I wonder if his "explosion increases" as he gets older and improves his strength. Daugherty was saying he needs to explode over and around guys and he doesn't realize it. Needs to work on that handle for that too.

He is a controversial youngster for sure. If it was 1980 he would be in college with another year to figure out what he is. Help NBA scouts figure him out. He even talks like a college boy. Not a man yet.

Now we do it on the fly. Wait until Mobley vs Wemba happens and Wemba gets the worse of it. Panic city for that team!

How is he controversial? He isn't Kyrie off the court or Jalen Green on the court. I know you like bad takes but this is a pretty bad one even by the usual standard

I'm assuming @Futuredome is referring to the fact that some of the player comps were controversial, like Durant. And maybe just how raw he was offensively.

He’s controversial in that there is a controversy on this board about whether he will become one of the greatest players in NBA history or just a good player. It’s a very intense and passionate controversy that gets revisited every game

You mean...polite? Educated? What is wrong with how he talks?

For me, he sounds like a shy high school kid. I get why people would prefer he was a an in your face aggressive guy.

I saw him end of last year in Philly. I don't know why, but it struck me really hard how much of a kid he was. He just looks so big on TV, but you can see he seems like a teenager in person almost.

He looks great this year, but still has a very young man's body. He needs a lot of seasoning. I just think part of his sky high potential is that unlike Barnes and Cade he didn't really have an NBA ready body. The fact he seems like the best in his class before maturing is a big deal.

So why are the Raptors 20-27? They were a 47 win team last year. And he isn't their best player by any stretch so it's not like he's out there trying to carry scrubs. So if he's THAT good, that he'd turn us into a dominant squad, why can't he keep the Raptors from sucking??

I like Barnes. I think he's gonna be an all-star caliber player. But explain this to me.
Do you watch any Raptors games? They have no offensive rhythm it's a lot of iso sets with very little ball movement. It's hectic and not something that benefits Scotties style. And yes he's usually their 3rd or 4th option - but he has better numbers than Mobley while having an extremely slow start to the year where he was asked to run point and facilitate while they dealt with injuries.

It's about fit. Barnes fits a huge need on this team that Evan doesn't because we have Allen. You can fill the hole Mobley would leave much easier than you can with the hole we have at small forward - which you are seeing right now play out this season. Having a small forward who can create his own shot, is a very capable passer and is a plus defender would put this team over the top in my opinion.

edit: and because people are mentioning KG in this thread - real recognize real
