Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why would the Cavaliers want a guy who is playing for money?

I believe Williams wants to get paid, but also get his chance to emerge. He's the primary backup to a pair of All Stars in Tatum and Brown. For the past two seasons, his percentages have been insane: .475 from the field, over 41% from three, over 85% from the line. He isn't a big stocks contributor and he isn't an explosive athlete, but he has a PJ Tucker game and frame for dirty work and shooting.

As someone who knows very little about this kids game, is he too slow to guard SF?

I think trading with Boston is a non starter most likely, dont see them wanting to make a trade with us, but if they will, i would be interested.

I see the PJ Tucker too, a better shooting Lamar Stevens. Not sure what his defensive metrics look like, but getting a bit over MLE money should scare us, I dont see the market shaking out to 18-20 mill, but 15 mill might be his market and with Love and Levert coming off the books, if we get his birds rights, he might be a better fit than LeVert.

You just can’t have enough quality guard play…

If the Cavs acquire another guard then so be it…

So, Grant Williams has turned down an extension from an NBA Finals participant and the team with the best odds to win this year, because he thinks he can make more money in free agency, and folks think it's a *good* idea to add him? I know folks that may be available have warts, but with this team, to a man, expressing how close they are and stressing camaraderie and chemistry and selflessness, Im hesitant as hell to add a guy that is more concerned about making *his* money than winning. Screams Kelly Oubre/DeAngelo Russell to me.

And I'm 1000000% in favor of players making every cent they can. I just dont like such clear motivation being the driver--especially in a FA year.

The rest of your paragraph argues otherwise, counsel. Williams has made a little over 11 million on his rookie contract and like everyone in the NBA, he sees his opportunity to make generational wealth. Being the backup his entire career isn't that path.

Literally nothing in my 41yrs suggests I dont want a player getting paid. If Boston wants to give him the MAX, I'll give him a high 5 and celebrate with him. If the Cavaliers want to give Evan the MAX, I support that. I think players should get closer to 70% BRI, minimum, instead of the 50ish theyve been hovering around for awhile. I don't want a player that has turned down market value on a better team with better infrastructure so he can make more money on *this* team. It's personality, no pay. Just like I wouldn't want Oubre, Russell, Jalen Green, Drummond, KPJ, etc. On a less impressionable team? Maybe. But with the starting lineup all under 27, I'm not risking it.

Sign and trade. Don't deal with him unless you know he's locked up and what you owe him over his contract.

Grant Williams to me just seems like a better version of Dean Wade - a nice 2nd unit combo-forward who don't think has the ability to defend 3's with any regularity and otherwise is primarily a 4. Anything more than that IMO is a stretch. If I were the Cavs am not sure this is where I would be allocating resources. And specific to Williams and his game, IMO he doesn't scream breakout candidate and otherwise would probably predict whoever signs him to a big deal will be regretting it.

I see no reason why Bkn does this. They are giving up the best player in the trade for cap relief. And to a conference rival? Color me unlikely
And considering how the Allen trade turned out..they aren't going to want to help Cleveland anytime soon.

I'm not sure Brooklyn would be bitter about the Allen part of that trade. I think they were willing to give up Allen, it was Houston who didn't want Allen and wanted a first round pick instead of him. Koby just made Brooklyn's package viable to Houston.

I think the rumor was that Houston wanted an unprotected first round pick instead of Allen and the Milwaukee pick that the Cavs had fit the bill despite it not having the high probability of being a high pick.

Williams said he wants to win a ship in Boston and stay the other day. I think he was gambling on building off of last post-season, but that hasn't worked as well as he hoped (like Dennis Schroeder tried doing).

I think Boston now wants to take advantage of that and pay him even less than their initial offer.. so trading enters the picture.

This past offseason Boston signed Gallinari who am thinking the Celtics viewed as being a slight upgrade (or comparable) to what they already had in Williams. Between Gallinari missing the entire season and R. Williams missing a large chunck of it and G. Williams still not really breaking through IMO pretty much cements he about is what he is. But as we've seen plenty of times there are teams who miscalculate and overpay.

Cavs get: Mo Bamba, Terrence Ross

Magic get: Caris LeVert and two 2nd rounders

Yeah, so I get it that Hoodly isn't a Grant Williams fan, but credible sources put his value at around 14-15 million per year.

I think the Celts aren't likely to deal with the Cavs, but he's being low-balled hard in this thread compared to his published market.
