Espino needed innings this season. But now I don't see him in a game till @ July, at the earliest.
Still, it's not like he has to have surgery.

The Guards live up to their name as they are truly 'guarded' when reporting on injuries. Don't remember who it was in this forum, but we didn't see any early spring footage of Espino throwing live BP. Had to know something was up then. Shutting down for 2 months is a conservative approach to the injury. The last thing they want to do is cut into Espino's shoulder. But sitting for 2 months guarantees nothing. Best case, Espino throws some semi-meaningful pitches out in Arizona before the end of the season. I'll be shocked if he throws a competitive affiliate pitch in 2023. Once again, just shows there is no such thing as too much pitching. I hope for Espino's sake he can beat the odds. But few successful pitching careers emerge from multiple seasons of significant idle time.

Just a reminder that an Espino/DeLauter combo would have been 80% of a package to acquire Sean Murphy.

I always cringed when I saw Espino doing heavy lifting, he's too buff for my liking. I don't know any ML pitchers that look like that. Anyone? Maybe the Astros SP who's names escapes me

And Delauter vs Collier decision is off to a not promising start. Fuck

Wouldn't the As have noticed these things in the physicals?

Maybe, who knows, it's the A's.

But how I understand it, those issues didn't persist in the offseason, especially not Espino's, who was still in shutdown mode and Delauter already got the screw in, so a November/December trade would've been perfect timing

The As didn't get 80% of Espino and Delauter in their package for Murphy, let alone the other way around.

When you have as much prospective pitching as the Guardians, to go along with what is already at the MLB level, it should be a no brainer to trade some of it for a major *cheap* long term addition to the team.

In the end, the old adage that there is no such thing as a pitching prospect is mostly true.

**********

What are the odds that Espino will make a major impact in Cleveland this year? Zero.

Next year? Not much better.

At any point? Fairly slim.

What is the difference in Espino's trade value now compared to a year ago? Cratered.
