Game Thread | Knicks playoff series Game #4 | Cavs @ Knicks | April 23, 2023 | 1:00 p.m. ABC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Okoro still outplayed Mitchell. I love Okoro, and he played well, but we have no chance of winning if that's the case.

Mitchell still deserves the most criticism, but really, the lack of backbone is my biggest beef. Where is it?

When shit goes bad, they just freakin' panic. These are definitely not your LeBron James Cavs. Those teams weren't perfect, but they had a backbone.

That's what really is demoralizing. We weren't outplayed, we were out willed. The Knicks broke our will, really? You can sense it, once they came back swinging, we folded, lost the lead, and never came close to getting it back.

That is just sad.
Is it culture? Coaching or more personnel with the lack of backbone? Youth? I'm trying to figure out how we give these young guys the right mentality. Jared Allen unfortunately is not going to be someone who will ever have a backbone. It's best we move on from him.

Post game Serena and that other chick both trying to talk the positives - give me a fkin break.
All that highlight the positive crap is more than I can stomach right now.

Definitely not just coaching, that's what concerns me. Too many fragile players. You can't coach a backbone.

JB actually is a very passionate coach, I don't blame him for this. His lack of Xs and Os, and dumb rotations, very deserving.

Make no mistake, he was definitely not why we lost. But he's not good, either.

Idk whether the two are related or if I blame JB for that, but what I do know is I dont think I've ever seen a Ty Lue team without a backbone

No evidence for this, but I have a weird feeling that if you gave Thibs our guys for a season and JBB the Knicks lineup that Thibs could win this series with our guys

And Cedi misses everything, provides nothing defensively and makes the most boneheaded plays I’ve ever seen. What changed from regular season where they rode Okoro all season saying how much be brought on the defensive side and could knock down enough shots to keep him out there… to the playoffs where they just totally go away from him. It’s a fireable offense

What changed was it's a do or die playoff game and they're down 5 and 7 points late in the 4th and Okoro missed two wide open 3s and he had to try someone else to see if he could save the season and make a shot.

You can ride out Okoro clanking open 3 after open 3 in the regular season, but you can't in the playoffs when his man is the guy cutting off every driving for your best player.

Dan Gilbert had a stroke in 2019.

I'm pretty sure that slowed him down a little bit.

I knew he had a stroke. But I've felt this way ever since we won and Kyrie left. He didn't go all out to get LeBron someone else outside of Love. We could have made more of an effort to get the right team around LeBron. And regardless of a stroke or not, the word around the street is he doesn't want to go into the tax again (even though he seemingly okayed Love getting the max when he was a 22m/year player at best at the time). We didn't take on any additional salary for bringing in Mitchell, just mortgaged our future and then did nothing from that point to improve the squad. And I'm guessing the purse strings are going to tighten even more when Mobley's contract comes into play. I want an owner who is involved and willing to put money into it.

This isn't to downplay the stroke by the way. I feel awful for him and hope he's recovering well. I just don't think he or his family really care about the team anymore.

They also don't have a 73-win team. If they take care of business at home, it comes down to one huge win at the Garden. Will they pull it off? I'm not optimistic but possible
It’s definitely possible to win at home and then try to steal game 6 in NYC. That’s the good part about home court advantage. The Cavs are still 1 home loss behind the Knicks, and have 2 of the next 3 at home.

That being said, I don’t feel good about game 6 in NY.

It’s a weird positive, but maybe since Mitchell was so bad in NYC last time, he’ll want ti redeem himself for game 6.
