These past few weeks Naz Reid has become my number 1 target this off-season. I guess even surpassing the starting SF. He would add so much to and complete our big rotation it's crazy.

I'm just not sure we can pry him away from the Wolves. At least not at the MLE money.

But if so, I think it would be a huge get.

Use Okoro to get O'Neale, sign/trade for a few more shooters and I think that's a great retool.

Allen/Reid/iMobley
Mobley/RoCo/Wade
O'Neale/Watanabe/Stevens
Mitchell/LeVert/Green
Garland/Rubio/young PG

My dream offseason is to get Royce O'Neale & Jordan Clarkson. Koby would have to get creative but it's possible. Some luck could come in play if the Nets don't want to pay O'Neale. Also re-sign LeVert for a reasonable amount.

Trade Okoro & Osman for Clarkson. Can we trade our '24 pick swap for O'Neale? What about our '30 pick swap? We have a surplus of second round picks as well.

PG: Darius Garland / Ricky Rubio / Raul Neto
SG: Donovan Mitchell / Jordan Clarkson / Sam Merrill
SF: Royce O'Neale / Caris LeVert / Lamar Stevens
PF: Evan Mobley / Dean Wade / Luke Travers / Isaiah Mobley
C: Jarrett Allen / Khalifa Diop
Coach: J.B. Bickerstaff
Luke is already under contract for next year somewhere I thought...

This would be nice offseason, though I think we’d need a cheap defensive specialist in there to throw at bigger guards.

Huge fan of Reid on this team, but I have the feeling someone is either going to offer him a starting slot, way more money, or both. I read after the season that Brooklyn wants to keep Watanabe. No idea how much truth there is to that especially if they resign Johnson.

Naz Reid is not going to be a backup here for the MLE. I am not sure that is even realistic enough to discuss. Watanabe is interesting and a reasonable guy for the MLE or part of the MLE.

Even if we don’t get Reid @Randolphkeys has a nice little consolation option that just might be the answer…

He's not reasonable for the MLE. Or even part of the MLE. He's a end of the rotation at best player. He just played for the league minimum. Why would we give him the MLE?

I've seen people wondering if Reid would accept a role as third big behind Allen and Mobley. Here's what stands out to me... That's the role Reid filled in Minnesota anyways. What's the difference between Gobert and KAT compared to Mobley and Allen? If anything, the Cavs bigs are far better switching down to defend the perimeter.

The question is if Naz Reid will settle for the MLE when the Timberwolves clearly need him just as badly as the Cavs. I don't throw all my chips down for any one player in May. You don't know what the market will do yet. With the Cavs assets, they need to pounce on second wave free agents.

Unless of course we are talking about how to use the BAE, which is going to Drew Eubanks or else fuck the season and I spend the next ten months incessantly claiming I'm smarter than Koby Altman after every tiny setback.

I think it's unlikely, but I don't think it's crazy necessarily. He could pretty easily get 24+ mpg here as a backup since he can play with both Allen and Mobley. He's also proven to be effective as a small ball C and spot starter, so the minutes will be there for him even if we sign another "brute force" big.

He'd be the 7th player in our rotation behind LeVert as the 6th man and the 1st big off the bench. Isn't this kind of like asking why pay a player a max contract when they just played on a rookie deal? Players improve and value is relative. Once a guy signs a minimum contract he isn't destined to play on a minimum for the rest of his career. I suppose the Lakers should let Reaves walk if he won't sign for the minimum?

you and everyone here should be pissed off as fuk for what is about to inevitably happen this summer.

Makes more sense to wait for something to actually happen rather than "inevitably" happen before getting pissed.

I was referring to Watanabe not Reid. Watanabe is a league minimum player to me. Reid will likely get more then the MLE and he deserves it. Watanabe is the Japanese Steve Novak. He can carve out a career as a shooter for 15 to 20 MPG but otherwise shouldn't be counted on to provide anything else.

I would rather use the full MLE to get a wing shooter like Josh Richardson. They're not cheap.

Backup bigs are easier to find and cost less. I'm not sure what Reid would bring us anyway. He's undersized for PF or C [6'9"] and a below average three point shooter [<35.%]?

Here's a podcast from Bill Simmons talking about the huge changes the new CBA is going to force on the league. Nothing directly Cavs related but it does make it pretty clear it may come down to Mobley or Mitchell as you can't carry 3 max players unless you want the rest of the team made up of undrafted free agents.

I also think it's going to make teams way more prudent with putting supermax language into a contract. A player getting the supermax because they become defensive player of the year or get voted onto 3rd team All NBA could really screw a team.

It might also shift how teams draft especially in the middle 1st round and later. Getting a older more ready player that can contribute on their rookie contract could be seen as better value than a higher upside player especially for playoff teams.

It also probably really increases the value of first round picks at a time our closet of them is barren. As Simmons pointed out, the Spurs big advantage is not just that they got Wemby, but that that get him at such a low contract number and it almost forces them to start thinking win now in an era when other teams will be cutting salaries.

I listened to the podcast. Not a giant Simmons fan but thought their discussion was pretty good.

I do think the issue that seems to be getting glossed over in all of this is I think many of these rules are a direct result of coming league expansion. If you add more teams to the league you have to create some mechanisms to help distribute the top talent to other teams. Some of these rules could help do that.

I think it’s more likely the Cavs decision eventually comes down to Garland or Mitchell and not Garland or Mobley. I don’t see a ton of paths where Mobley isn’t on the team for a very long time.
