The Jimmy Haslam Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I quite like how that doesn't look like a football stadium from the outside.
It gives me heavy Las Vegas vibes. Just different color scheme, and squared-off instead of rounded.

But what's the sexiest thing about that proposed Tennessee stadium (besides it having a roof)?

I don't see it surrounded by miles of parking lot.

Stick the stadium in the city. Make it walkable. Make parking off-site, with shuttles to-and-from the stadium.

This also allows people to get down early, park, and then hang out in the city both before and after the game instead of taking the shuttle straight to their car if they so choose.

I saw someone compare it to the PS1.
Could see that too.

I love it either way. Mostly because I initially saw turntable. I just love the sleek, glossy symmetry. Unique.

Johnny Cash just rolled over in his grave to that abomination of a remake of "Ring of Fire". Legit just ruined my day.

Edit: Jigo beat me to it.
Like who asked for that shit?

Literally no usage of Johnny Cash’s voice? Techno. Over-singing female.

I’m sure there’s a name for the type of over-singing she’s doing where they overly stress certain vowels and sort of ghost the s. I hate it.

What a fucking mess.

Isn’t the stadium in Tennessee 100% funded by taxpayers? And our local government wants the suburbs to pay for renovations lol, Nevermind just saw that the titans are paying roughly 900 million

The Titans are paying $840M. The taxpayers are footing $1.26B.

The Browns are currently valued at 4.2B. Haslam paid 1B for the team. Not even counting revenue, simply just the increased valuation of the asset over the years has earned him over 3B.

These billionaire owners should be paying more for the stadiums that their teams require.

I agree with you that owners should be paying more. But on the flip side if local municipalities are willing to foot a majority of the bill and invest in their cities, why would they? Think of what kind of revenue a new domed stadium, with all the events they could house, could generate?

Is there any proof these stadiums generate more for a city than what they cost?

Yeah. We've had this conversation on RCF before when Gilbert slimed his way into pushing through the Sin Tax. Multiple studies show that subsidizing sports stadiums is a net negative for taxpayers/residents.

"Economists John C. Bradbury, Dennis Coates, and Brad Humphreys went through 130 studies over 30 years and concluded: “The large subsidies commonly devoted to constructing professional sports venues are not justified as worthwhile public investments.”
