I know that we do not have a 2nd round draft pick this year. Do we have a 1st round pick this year? I know we wasted 2007's on Jiri Welsh but I thought there was a rule that you can't have 2 consecutive years without a 1st rounder.

And if we do who do you think we should try to get? I would like for use to try for DJ White if he is available.

could be, I was so excited after the whole trade went down, I never paid attention to when we got the pick

My first thought was to draft CavsRules out of LHU (Larry Hughes State) but he would end up sucking. Then i thought of Gary Forbes from Massachusetts.
Strengths: Versatile wing with good combination of length and athleticism ... The Panama native has a good feel for the game and shows strong leadership skills ... His ball handling ability is especially impressive for a wing ... Never over-penetrates, makes good decisions and leads the break well ... Solid athlete with good defensive ability. His positive A/TO ratio is testament to his high basketball IQ ... Athleticism is decent, although not out of this world ... Adept scorer who uses his ball handling ability well to get to the basket. Midrange game is polished ... Has great size to play the SG position at the next level ... A smart, mature, experienced player who should be ready to contribute right away at the next level ... Works hard on his game and has shown marked improvement in his free throw and outside shooting ...

Weaknesses: Very solid in all areas, but doesn't stand out in any one area ... A better scorer than shooter, he could stand to increase his range and consistency ... As a fifth year senior, his untapped potential isn't as great as many other prospects that will be available. He'll be 23 and a half by draft day ... Had a reputation for being inconsistent going into his senior year, but has played at a high level up to midway through January ... His length helps him, but his effort and lateral foot speed are below NBA level. Defense is the area of his game that will require the most work for him to get playing time and succeed at the next level ... Detractors will discredit his excellent senior stats for being in the Atlantic 10 and question why he couldn't "cut it" in the ACC ...

Having a breakout season as a senior and should have a good chance at being Atlantic 10 Player of the Year.

When you hear my name around HS basketball(Mentor or North team) we will see who sucks!

The Cavs have a first round pick this year, no 2nd. The Bulls gave us a '09 second round draft pick in this blockbuster, as well... I was wishing it'd be a first, but I was dreaming.

We do have a 1st. I think DJ White would be a nice fit. He's probably a bit undersized for a pf in the NBA, but he has a good head for the game, has become a great rebounder, and can hit the jumper from 15 ft plus. Plus he's a good character guy.

Darrell Arthur, and Thabeet are two other big guys I like that may be around when we pick.

Another quick question...I know the nba has been switching rules on seeding.

Before I think that it was the team with best record. Then they switched it to one team from each division has to have the top seeds.

So even if the cavs have a better record then the Magic would we or would we not have the #3 seed?

There are three main needs that we have:

Athletic perimeter stopper
Athletic big men/big men for future
2nd scorer

The perimeter stopper can be acquired through free agency...

The 2nd scorer will likely be through a trade...

Which leaves big men... We really need some and it has to to be the #1 thing on our board... I like these guys to fill that:

Darrell Arthur, PF, Kansas
Richard Hendrix, PF, Alabama
DeVon Hardin, C, California
Hasheem Thabeet, C, UConn
Nathan Jawai, C, Australia
Jason Thompson, F/C, Rider
DJ White, PF, Indiana

Now since we won't have much room to sign anybody we could draft a wing player... If we do so here's a guy I absolutely love and think he's a Brandon Roy type player:

Coutney Lee, G, Western Kentucky

If not, the more perimeter defenders:

Tyler Smith, F, Tennessee
Bill Walker, G, Kansas State
Kyle Weaver, G, Washington State

Whoever we do draft, I think we should go after a college senior... They're proven commodities and have a high success rate and can contribute right away... With this current team and current coaching staff, we've seen how "projects" develop... We should take a guy with some experience and someone who can contribute right away...

So far my favorite guys in the draft:

Jason Thompson
Nathan Jawai
DeVon Hardin
Courtney Lee
Richard Hendrix

I know I mentioned it before, but Ferry has personally scouted Jason Thompson... FYI...

I know I'm going to get the you only want him because he plays for the Buckeyes label but Hunter interests me. I don't mean draft him in the first, he probably won't even get drafted but if he goes undrafted I'd atleast bring him into camp. He's a big guy that is very athletic, his biggest problem isn't he hasn't played basketball as long as most players in college.

I want Hasheem Thabeet the kid puts up 10 points 8 bounds and 4 blocks..he has loads of potential and Z isn't always gonna be there.

Hendrix will be interesting, I think he can be a solid NBA player, I remember following him throughout his High School years (he was also a '05) but he has just never really had the success down there at 'Bama. I think he could be a steal in the draft.

Supposedly there was widespread talk of eliminating the 2nd round of the draft in about 2005(whenever the CBA was done). So paxson went ahead and traded this years #2 for Milt Palacio. On par with the wasted Jiri pick, although we at least turned Jiri into Martynas. ;)

With some of these guys sticking around as long as they do...

Juwan Howard
Dikembe Mutumbo
Chris Webber
Eric Snow
Darrell Armstrong
Speedy Claxton
Robert Horry
Othella Harrington
Aaron McKie
Lindsey Hunter
Damon Stoudamire
Joe Smith
Tim Thomas
Jaque Vahugn
Antoine Walker

Now even these guys may be on NBA rosters and still contribute, I think that it makes it even harder for younger guys to break through and establish themselves as "the new generation" of NBA players. So for them to get rid of the 2nd round, it wouldnt shock or surprise me, but I think there is a lot of talent out there that goes untapped because of guys like these taking up spots.
