2008 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The big man prospects usually go much earlier in the draft than we'll be picking. We can't even grab a long-term raw development player like a Bynum or Blache because no one is coming straight from HS anymore.

We could potentially identify and draft a Scola/Splitter type who won't be able to play right away due to contract/buyout, but we can keep in reserve like the Spurs do.

But for a faster impact, we'd likely have a better chance finding someone who can contribute sooner and at a high level by going after a guard.

When you hear my name around HS basketball(Mentor or North team) we will see who sucks!

The Cavs have a first round pick this year, no 2nd. The Bulls gave us a '09 second round draft pick in this blockbuster, as well... I was wishing it'd be a first, but I was dreaming.

nbadraft.net says differantly, are you sure? Usually they are up to par on the trades and stuff. They say we have our normal second round pick as well as first.

We have no second rounder. The bulls 2nd rd pick is 2009.

Milt Palacio trade, our pick goes to the Suns. Check draftexpress.com.

Agree on going after a big man prospect. But, if there isn't anyone there worth taking at the Cavs spot then I would target Patrick O'Bryant of the Warriors in free agency.

O'Bryant was the 9th pick overall in 2006 and couldn't have been drafted into a worse situation for him after Don Nelson took over as coach. He doesn't turn 22 until June so adding him is pretty much the same as drafting a player but he has a little more experience after 2 years around the NBA despite playing in a system that doesn't value C's or post play. He also will be an unrestricted FA.
O'Bryant 7-0 250 and has decent skills and athleticism.

Just another option for a player who's a true C, still very young, and who could possibly develop into a long term answer to replace Z.

If we cannot sign a guy like Elton Brand or trade for one like him, it's obvious we need a big men. Especially with Drew Gooden out of our future(I don't know if he ever was, though) we will need someone to replace Z when he reties. Its better to try and land the best big man in the draft that we can possibly get so we can have him learn our system and style of ball.

You guys scare me with all your talk of "not valuing C's" and the "need for big men"...:gayfite:

well you can't go into the draft thinking you need to take a big man because when all the guys you target are gone you will reach and end up with a flop. I believe when it is your pick you take the best player on the board no matter the position.

Never liked that type of thinking for a general manger. You know what you need to improve, and adding a guy that isn't as much needed as another player would be a mistake. If this so called player left on the board when we are on the clock is really good, and Ferry believes he can get better next year, free agency, trades.. Whatever, then I'm for it.

But I draft by position need, unless their is a guy you cannot pass on.

Marreese Speights if available, Darren Collison, Trent Plaisted, Hasheem Thabeet, J.J. Hickson... any please.

the last few weeks Luke Harangody has caught my eye. I haven't seen any draft site that has him entering the draft but a guy who averages 21 and 10 in the Big East would be someone to look at. he doesn't look like a guy who should be able to do what he does but he is very effective, atleast on the offensive end.
