INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- The Cavaliers are going to be depleted again tonight when they host Greek power Olympiakos in a preseason game at the Q.

Anderson Varejao, who missed the team's win Saturday over the Charlotte Bobcats in Charleston, S.C., with back spasms, will start at power forward.

But Mo Williams will not play. He's continuing to deal with a groin injury, although coach Mike Brown said holding him out was just precautionary. Delonte West is still away from the team for personal reasons and has no timetable set for his return.

That means Daniel Gibson will start at point guard against Olympiakos.

In addition, Jamario Moon, who had two wisdom teeth pulled on Friday, will also sit out tonight. Danny Green, who is battling a pulled muscle in his leg, is also out.

LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal will start for the Cavs.

That is of particular interest to the large contigent of Greek media in town. They are very much looking forward to Shaq vs. Baby Shaq, the nickname given to Greek center Sofoklis Schortsanitis.

Baby Shaq is listed at 6-foot-10 and 315 pounds and played a large role in Greece's upset of Team USA in the 2006 World Championships. The Los Angeles Clippers have his draft rights.

I don't like all these injuries going on....

Hopefully most of the players being out is for precautionary measures.

Should see a lot of Coby Karl then tonight with Mo out.. LOL. It'll be fun.

Mo had surgery on his groin before last season. I know he has a history of injury and we took his health for granted last year. I think we are deep, but I think if Mo missed significant time it would really affect us.

I hope none of the injuries linger, but I'm glad we'll see Gibson at the point with the starters. Let's see if has made any progress or if the PG issue has to be raised in priority.

I also imagine we should see a lot of Andre Barrett, too. Might as well evaluate him as much as possible just in case.

I was thinking the same thing. He also sat out the Wine and Gold Scrimmage which makes me wonder if this is becoming a chronic problem again. Unless...Mike Brown uses Mo's injury history as an easy excuse to really see the other point guards--and I use that term loosely for Boobie specifically.

I hope this is all precautionary...

If Mo needed surgery for this I would hope he would have taken care of it in the offseason.

All these injuries make me a little uneasy. Too much riding on the line this season, and Delonte's continued absense too is hanging over the team's head :(

Dude, I've never seen anyone freak out about every little thing like you do, and then come up with like 3 cockamamie explanations for why they must be going on.

I'm sure Mo just pulled a muscle, and instead of running him hard in the preseason which doesn't matter at all, it's much better to just let him chill so 2 weeks from now it's not an issue rather than an almost-gone-but-still-kinda-there issue.

The Greek media really got to the heart of this showdown : Big Aristotle and the guy named after Sophocles.

The battle in the paint will mirror their namesakes : The greatest of his era (scientific theory, inventor of academic discourses) against a faulted one-hit wonder (Oedipus Rex).

Okay, enough nerding out. This is the best team outside of the NBA. I just enjoy seeing a strong measuring stick for the drop off between an NBA powerhouse and a Euro league contender. Assessing the progress of our foreign developmental projects will draw from watching this exhibition.

And I have never seen anyone around here that is on my case as much as you are. Read the few posts above mine, people have similar concerns. I'm sorry if the Browns suck, the Indians suck and the Cavaliers are all we can count on. This is the biggest season for us, so yes, there is some exaggeration, but you also want things to roll smoothly. Us Cleveland fans are used to disaster, so when these little occurences start to happen and slowly pile up, especially before such a big year, I think it's only natural to experience that paranoia.

Deep down I'm hoping Mo's injury is minor, and sitting him would be the best option, but you never know with sports injuries. Some things just linger, with Boobie he had "turf toe" as a crutch last season. He played through it, but sucked until he could be shut down and completely recover over the summer. So far in the preseason he looks much better.

Delonte's situation isn't exactly ideal either, and I'm sorry I bring that up. He is just a major piece to this team, so I hope there is a quick and effective resolution for him. Especially if Mo does have a lingering injury, Delonte is greatly missed. People want to take the high road on his situation, but from a sports and business perspective his side story is the last thing a championship contending team wants to have to worry about.

Yes, we are 2-0 which is great, but there have been some bumps already in the preseason, nothing I would want rolling into the regular season.

Well he did go to Delonte's house to tell him we need him at practice.:chuckles:

I agree, I have never even met this dude and he creeps me out. And I thought that I freaked out about everything. :chuckles:

Just ordered tickets to the game. So pumped.

I'm gonna try and find a Greek Olympiakos message board to troll for a little smack talk before the game and say shit like Socrates was overrated, the Hellenistic period was bullshit, Stoicism sucks bro!

I'm Greek and an Olympiacos fan so no need to go looking for message boards

I have two tickets available for tonight in Section 118, Row 8. Can't use them and I want someone to get them that wants to go... so serious replies only. ONLY REPLY IF YOU WILL PERSONALLY ATTEND THE GAME IN THESE SEATS. First one to post a reply quoting this post gets them. Be prepared to send me your full name and e-mail address in a PM so I can send the tix via Flash Seats.

Mo's "lingering groin injury" just means he gave it too his wife a little too aggressively during the off-season. :chuckles:

It's not serious, "precautionary measures" are things smart teams do to their starters during the pre-season. If LeBron had a hang-nail he'd get sat out for the next three pre-season games because that's the smart thing to do.

Whatever, fuck this site... It's a shame a few people let their rep get to their heads and feel like they are better than everyone else. I bring up valid points in my argument, but instead you'd rather just put people down.

I don't think there is anything wrong with expressing concern when a season with high hopes gets off to a rocky start. I shouldn't have to be critized for acting the way a fan is suppose to act.
