2012 Opening Game Starting Lineup

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
At least we'll find out if waiters can learn to finish amongst the trees as they will leave tt and Andy in a flash. I don't think its a bad thing having waiter learn from the tip and it gives Byron 8 mins to experiment before the game gets really out of hand. This is a development season so I'm excited to watch the team grow.

I think that the Cavs know that we are going to suck so might as well go full-go with dion and see what we got... I bet Byron sits his lazy goofy ass eventually but we do suck so like another poster said we should just get Kyrie and Dion playing together as much as possible to improve

Our depth is sad and while I don't think he should be starting who the hell should he sit behind... CJ???

This is gonna be another long year... But I'm glad we are back

I'm not sure that reasoning necessarily plays out like you expect. Dion has already shown the propensity to dish to guys cutting to the hole...ala TT and Andy when their guys come to help. So, I'm not so sure it will play out that way, but I think in the end, once his game gets more known, guys will not be so quick to help out and Dion will then be able to finish a little easier. His vision will pay off for him, imo. With his ability to find guys cutting and in the PnR, hopefully we can exploit his game to get this offense a little more diverse than what it looks like it may be.

I'm glad too see that Kyrie and Waiters getting into the paint and running into 4 men in the paint wasn't worrisome at all during pre season.. now, we can add Gees man into the equation.

It's quite easy to see that our most effective line up here is going to be Kyrie/Dion/Miles/Varejao/Zeller .. with a closing line up of Kyrie/Dion/Miles/Gee/Varejao. These first couple games are going to be a complete mess in the half court.

I would actually like to see Casspi in the starting five, as he's probably the best three point shooter on the team not named Irving or Gibson. Plus, he actually played pretty well in the preseason.

Good thread.

Don't like Tristan and AV starting together. Both of our guards are good at getting to the basket and we have two guys starting who are no threat to stretch the defense. This will allow the defense to collapse and grind our offense down. Really would have preferred Zeller starting with AV or even Tristan. He definitely has good chemistry with Waiters on the pick and roll

I doubt it stays that way. There's need for scoring in the frontcourt , but at the start lets see what happens.

It's imperative that this group gets out in transition and just run run run because their half court offense will be atrocious.

I keep seeing Byron rave about the "balance" this line up brings yet I don't see the balance in only having 1 shooter on the floor and not having a post player with any sort of mid range game.

I foresee Kyrie being forced into a lot of jump shots when he's playing with this unit.

I think the balance Scott refers to is balancing the first/second units and not necessarily within the actual five players on the court.

I liked the Zeller/Varejao pairing myself. It's long, athletic and skilled. Tristan comes off the bench until the eventual AV trade.

I like Miles coming off the bench because his ability to play the 2 opens up some opportunity for Casspi. I like a lineup of Sloan/Gibson, Miles and Casspi better than a lineup of Sloan, Gibson and Gee.

Who starts? Who finishes? Who fits together?

Who cares?

The season finally starts tonight. I am happy! :king:

Any updates on Kyrie?

I'm sure he'll play. Yesterday Byron said he isn't "cleared by doctors" yet, but Kyrie played in practice again and he looked "good." Byron just likes to give the politically correct answers regarding this kind of shit. I think he said that Kyrie was going to "clear himself to play if the doctors didn't" :chuckles:

It's opening night, he had a basic oral operation, he's going to play.

Holy shit am I excited, I'm trying to get downtown nice and early to watch shoot around and stuff. Are fans allowed to go down to behind the bench to watch them warmup before the game or anything?

Casspi is marginally better than Miles and Gee from behind the arc. Still a net negative with him in the starting lineup over either of those two.

@PDCavsInsider:

Kyrie Irving cleared to play for #Cavs tonight after having wisdom teeth out Wed

It wouldn't be the worst thing if this team started to build a defensive identity.

What you guys don't know about TT is.. is that he has been straight slammin 15-20 ft jumpers on the regular lately. New addition to his arsenal. :chuckles:
