Does this team need a change in head coaching?
Yep...but we wont get anyone better.

I'm not advocating replacing Thad Matta, because they shouldn't, but to say he's a great "coach" is a real stretch. He sets up good schemes, and seemingly prepares well for games, but he leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to adjustments, developing and utilizing his bench, and giving ample time to freshman who aren't 5 star recruits to develop.
The not developing his bench plays along with the lack of adjustments. He has a tough time making a change to bring a bench guy who matches up better, because he doesn't trust them, because from the beginning of the season they haven't received enough playing time.
JD Weatherspoon, Jordan Sibert & Walter Offutt are specific examples of 3 talented guys he just didn't do anything with, and QRoss was on that path as well until he finally got playing time because Thad was desperate to find offense. Would not be surprised at all to see Kam Williams get very little burn next season and then transfer. I understand the want to ride the more talented starters, but this is an issue OSU continues to have.
Some real #HOT #SPORTS #TAKES on Thad Matta in here.
I know I've sure hated watching his teams win an average of 30 games over the last five years. The guy is a great coach and great recruiter. If you want OSU to get rid of him, you're a fucking moron.
Also, Ross leaving would be akin to Thomas leaving last year. The guy's game is pretty much maxed out. I'm sure he'll be quite content making six figures over in Europe. The good news is that guys like Keita Bates-Diop and a sophomore Marc Loving can really soften the blow of Ross leaving.
My way too early take on next year's starting 5:
PG - Shannon Scott
SG - D'Angelo Russell
SF - Sam Thompson
PF - Marc Loving
C - Amir Williams (ugh)
Key rotation players: SF/PF Keita Bates-Diop, SF Jae'sean Tate, SG Kameron Williams, C Trey McDonald
Ravenel getting playing time over him is the problem I outlined. He literally provided nothing but being a big body. Weatherspoon was raw as a player but at worst was not going to be any more of a deterrent to team success than Ravenel, but his upside was much greater. But Rav got the minutes because he was a junior. I'm still puzzled on this as well, because the guy couldn't get playing time for Boston College.Ross isn't half the player DT was
I like Spoon, I wish he would've kept around because he's a Columbus kid. But he was sitting behind Sully, DT & Ravenel. Tough for him to get burn with those guys around when he's mainly a leaper and he left when things opened up.
Can't remember exactly what was going on with Sibert. Would've been nice to get him more PT but he couldn't buy a 3 here. He lost all his confidence
This years team just wasn't that good, Mainly offensively. Ross isn't a #1 option. We had a bunch of glue guys, Role players and Ross the 1 guy who does have some offensive skill was limited because he can't dribble to get his shot or create for someone else. Cherry on top is Amir Williams is a disaster
