2019 Cleveland Browns Training Camp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So on the depth chart Strong is most likely the 4th WR. How does he get cut? Must just want to hold onto Ratley since he was drafted by them.

Short answer is he's not a special teamer, so once OBJ, Landry, and Higgins have their snaps there isn't much of a role for him. Hope he catches on somewhere - he's certainly good enough to play in the league when healthy.

I think Strong being cut early may have been one of those "We'll do you a favor and cut you now so you can hopefully stick to another team" types of moves.

@I'mWithDan you bring up good points. But, again, things like situation have such an impact on those stats. James Conner was near the top of every one of them as well, and I think we can all agree he's not anything special.

Maybe Chubb has untapped potential left in there. I'm not going to bet on him ever gaining the sort of agility required for me to move him into that top tier discussion, but if he does I'll be the first one to eat crow.

Luckily for us, our situation looks like it's going to be a damn good one. There's a good chance Chubb can put up elite production numbers regardless of him finding extra talent.

He's just a WR. Maybe the team wants a WR at the end of the roster who can/will also play Special Teams.

On a completely unrelated sidenote: It's cool to see Rod Streater getting a look as a scout with Cleveland. He didn't play for the Browns for long, but I think it plays well with the NFLPA and current players to see guys like that get a shot doing something other than putting their bodies on the line.

Would honestly like to see someone step up on special teams between Ratley, Willies and the rest of the field.

These two guys don't appear to be particularly safe.

Mahommes skyrocketed past Brees and Brady. People that don’t recognize it have some weird hang up on a handing of the baton or something.

If you wouldn’t take Mahommes #1 today as your QB then honestly you’re getting an inferior QB

Brady just won a super bowl passing for 2 touchdowns and throwing 3 picks. He ain’t that dude anymore.

Brees had nearly 200 less attempts last season than his 2016 season. He has had a steady decline in attempts his last 3 years as they’ve shifted to a more run heavy team. Yeah 74% completion is stupid impressive, but he’s been tasked with less and less as the years go on

Mahommes is that team. And honestly people hanging onto Brady and Brees ahead of him remind me of the guys grasping at straws to say Kobe was still ahead of LeBron when it was so clear he wasn’t. The torch has passed. Mahommes doesn’t need to win a super bowl to take the mantle, he took it last year. Best QB in the nfl

You don’t just throw 50 touchdowns as a sophomore and are somehow not the best QB in the league....

He’s going to break Peyton’s record at some point .

What's it look like past this season? Isn't the rollover cap space the bigger issue?
According to Overthecap, our top 51 players currently command $189,317,895 this season. We also have $21,097,194 in dead money. That's $210,415,089 this season against a $188,200,000 cap. We're $22,215,089 over this season's cap already.

Next season, our top 51 players would have salaries of $175,092,475 and I think the only dead money is Duke's 1.5 million. There's not a lot of wiggle room. If we continue to draft well, we're going to see veteran cap casualties very soon.

Damn, really hope it’s not for Braxton. That doesn’t even make sense.
I think you guys are overlooking the one and only reason Braxton is on this roster today: He's here to be practice squad Lamar Jackson. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's unfortunate that we need to use a roster spot just to prep for one player but I think the importance of game planning for LJ far exceeds the need for a 4th (or 5th) receiver like Strong.

That's a bit grim, but not too far off. Next year is last year on the current CBA then probably an uncapped year. Salary cap will go up soon, plus we have at least 35k of extra we can use. Cap will go up some too.

So cap casualties are probably: Kircksey who is owed 10 mill, deadcap 2.4....8 mill savings there
Travis Carrie 8.15 mill with deadcap of 1.8 so 6.34 mill
Hubbard 7.3 with deadcap of 2.4, so 5 mill saved
Morgan Burnett 4.8 mill, no deadcap, he basically signed a 1 year deal
Colquitt is owed 2,8, he might not be on the team

Schobert is on last year of a contract that pays him 2 mill. He has been affective in this defense, I wouldn't be surprised if we pay up to keep him
Higgins is only being paid 2 mill on a one year contract, similar he was a RFA like Schobert, but no way we pay up to keep him, too much invested in WR already
Randall is on the last year of his contract, 9 mill, might be able to get him a bit cheaper, but if we don't think Redwine is ready yet, might need to keep Randall.

I am sure I am missing some, but those cuts save us 27 mill, brining back Schobert and Randall, probably costs us 15-20 mill, so saves around 10 mill. Outside of another 8 or so draft picks, we will have room to sign 1 big free agent or 2 if they decide to use the overage we have saved that is about to go away. Issue with using overage is we are about to get very expensive keeping some of our own players.

Draft a tackle in the first, keep a tackle to play, and pay a guard. Lets invest in the o-line similar as we did the d-line this off season, not quite as much, but we can improve 2 positions and will have a very good line again,.

DeValve has to state his obvious truth like the 27-year-old hanger-on son of CEO who sucks at his six figure out-of-college gig.

Devalve has annoyed me with his constant injuries but I wouldn’t mind keeping him to start the season as a FB TE hybrid. He seems to do well when he’s thrown the ball.

He looked very rusty last game. Nothing personal against him, but his availability to practice and play is underwhelming due to him constantly in concussion protocol. I'd rather cut bait with him now and look for a roster cut to take his place. He's a decent receiving TE, but can't stay on the field to make much of an impact
