2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If they didn't feel it wasn't discipline then inform him of it ahead of time and explain the situation. We have heard of guys getting cars or money for switching their jersey number.

Even your explanation of it shows some disconnect of how they view lockers. They move a player's locker who they had said was "untouchable" and move him to the guys that are at the end of the bench and not in the rotation. The locker location is definitely seen as some sort pecking order and isn't nothing in the organization's eyes.

This is an insane defense of Porter. It is absolutely ridiculous.

I cant divulge any of the stuff that's not been made public but bottom line, Porter is gone and he has noone to blame but himself. He is solely in the wrong and the Cavs are making the right move for the organization by cutting bait right now.

Other players and their reps have taken their concerns to the Cavs brass about Porter at times. He is poisoning a strong culture.

I wonder why they gave his locker away tho? Does kinda seem like a dick move.
Maybe since he can’t get his shit together. Actually play. That he doesn’t a locker. Should have to earn the locker

What pecking order did he earn exactly ?

They gave him a different locker near the inactive/young guys that dont play much. Right where he belongs. It's not like he had no locker at all. Just moved 10-20 feet to a different part of the locker room.

I don't see any disconnect here.

The Cavs added two veterans in Allen and Prince, losing one in Exum. They needed space for both of them in a clubhouse with a limited number of lockers available.

I guess my question to you is: would you have put Allen or Prince (which one?) by the end-of-the-bench guys in order to preserve KPJ's location, even though KPJ hasn't played this season and wasn't anywhere close to playing even before this last outburst?

I don't think he earn anything but it seems odd to be moving lockers or even using it as a pecking order for things. Are lockers being move through out the season as the rotation changes? Again if it means nothing then why do it at all. If it does mean something then mature conversation should have been made to inform a player of the situation.

I agree with you on the open ended soft suspension.

We already did this, that is what he was on. He then blew up, threatened to fight people, I hear he messed up other peoples lockers, ect.

Just not ok. If this was any of us at another job, we don't make it to the summer with the shit Porter pulled. He had so many chances

Koby tried to have a mature conversation with Porter about it and calm everything down. Porter escalated the argument. He wasn't mad about the locker. He was mad about not being allowed to play despite doing nothing to earn his way back into the teams good graces after embarrassing them this summer with his criminal behavior. He was just looking for a reason to argue.

Oh hell no!!! Isn’t his contract guaranteed? Let him sit his butt at home until we find a trade partner. Do not release this guy and give him $$$ to live off of free of charge. BTW this is what I was talking about when I said the Cavs were not giving out information regarding his status! Exactly WHAT was it he was supposed to be doing to “earn” his way back on the active roster.

No I think Inliner and I are both against the soft suspension. He didn't know when he could come back, maybe never, and now it really is never.

They made his return conditional, and there were many steps in between he wasn't hitting. So, he wasn't going to play anyway, why not just blow it all up and get off the team to try somewhere else?

That makes more sense. I think maybe the culture of no really discipline of any players in the NBA compounded this situation. Players don't seem to be held accountable for much and get slaps on the wrist for actions. It makes it that much hard to discipline Porter and get him to mature.

It's hard to go against the grain on discipline as a organization when NBA player talk to each other so much. As an organization Im not sure if it's the right approach or even worth it to take on a player like Porter again. I think in pro sports you either don't draft players like Porter or you turn a blind eye to what he does and just deal with it.

I think trying to get a player to mature is a lost cause until they realize themselves they need to do it. Get go off without any charges from the police/courts. The NBA didn't seem to care what he did. Maybe the right approach is to not care either like other organizations. If they could keep it quiet for long enough, he could have been traded and maybe a team would feel like they stole him from us.

Is there any worthed "my headache for your headache" types of trades out there?

Hopefully, change of scene does him good, he's talented but so immature & troublesome
