2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's reported this happened Friday. He was at the Knicks game Friday and looked happy as pie.
Nonetheless, I wouldn't cut him. Could've been due to some medication. Who knows.

Yeah, if the Cavs dont cut him Koby Altman might as well resign because the way he disrespected the GM and his teammates as well as innocent staff who did nothing wrong has no place in this league and we have a bunch of positive culture young hard working dudes who don't wanna be around that kind of behavior. Put the core that actually matters first. Porter is no longer a part of the Cavs future and rightfully so.

I wonder why they thought it was a good idea to move his locker. We all know weird stuff like that mean stuff to players. Like organizations don't automatically give new players the numbers they want, they usually let players work it out themselves.

Ive thought keeping him out of playing basketball probably wasn't the best idea. Basketball probably has been an outlet his whole life and maybe his issues will be down to a managable level if he had that outlet.

It's going to suck losing him for nothing.

Not to say the Cavs are the problem, but I hope he goes to team with strong veteran leadership. What a shame.

Porter was portrayed as having off court issues coming out of college. Interestingly enough, he never got into a scuffle, ever, in his rookie season. He was always very disciplined & respectful to his teammates, the opposition & the refs. I never read of any negative things about him off the court either as a Cav.

What in the world happened? We're about to lose out on a potential star for reasons that I still can't comprehend.

I hope the front office does everything in their power to give him a last chance. This could be a big misunderstanding for all we know. He's a human, we all throw tantrums at one point, even in our adulthoods.

I mean the Cavs know what he is worth, they went to a lot of trouble to get him. If they are willing to cut bait, it must be pretty bad.

That's true but it's just been weird how the organization has decided to handle this. Get him help and be supportive is one thing.

It's like they want to be the father figure to him that he never had and instill the discipline he didn't get as a child. He is an adult and that ship has sailed. It just seems like they took the completely wrong approach to this and will lose a player with alot of potential because of it.

Just because you havent read anything doesn't mean it hasn't happened. This is a kid who started the year by getting arrested with a firearm and drugs in the off-season. His talent and age/immaturity is the only reason he even started the season on the roster.

They have him countless chances. He has ruined every single one. His last chance is long gone.

He gone. He will not be a Cav very shortly. It is not a misunderstanding. His behavior is flat out unacceptable and his teammates, coaches, and the teams front office and ownership have all reached a breaking point. The way he acted has no place in any professional setting.

With his attitude and behavior he will not be in the NBA long.

Maybe Porter wants to be here so bad & he thinks the Cavs org isn't doing the right things to implement him into the team. Just speculation on my part.

I'm curious as to what you think the right approach would have been.

They gave a rotation player a locker by the other rotation players and put an inactive young player with the other inactive young players.

He didn't do anything to even deserve to be back with the team or on the bench. Things have only gotten worse since his arrest. He has made no effort to fix the problems he's caused despite being given every chance, every resource, etc.

I don't doubt it was bad and they probably have to move on from this. It's just the approach they took with him to discipline him that I just don't get. If you want everyone to be an adult in a situation, you act like an adult and have tough conversations. Move his locker, inform him before he comes in and state the reason why. Talk it through and maybe the organization may have realize that locker spot means something to him that they didn't know.
