2019 NFL offseason thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm just glad that Luck had that "mysterious injury" before this announcement, as that's what kept me from drafting him in any of my fantasy leagues. Seemed too eerily similar to a couple of years ago when the Colts were so shady about Luck's injury and then he missed the entire year.
You and me both. I had my finger on the Luck-trigger but like you said, something about his injury wasnt right. Just like his shoulder injury. I took Matt Ryan instead.

I've been drafting a lot of Mayfield, Darnold, Murray, Prescott, and Jackson. Mayfield is often off the board by the time I'd be willing to draft a QB, but I do have him in a couple of leagues.

This was a keeper league so i thought, well Luck is younger than Ryan, but my gut just wouldnt let me do it. Yes, Baker goes way too high for me to take a qb. People get crazy with qbs. That strategy rarely works.

I am going to...for the sake of argument? Pretend that our team is not in this conversation.

The AFC just became a bit less...Predictable? With this retirement.

Since 04? The teams that have been within earshot of the super bowl for the most part have been
-Colts (with Manning or Luck)
-Broncos (with Manning)
-Steelers
-Ravens
-Patriots

The Colts were...prior to his? A Green Bay Packers-esque franchise in the manner of getting franchise qb's back to back. Their window...in theory was to contend for a Super Bowl with the Patriots about to go away

is it now down to (again, not including us) the steelers or patriots to win the AFC?

Interesting to see a lot of sports pundits rightfully praise Luck for his courage by saying how dangerous football is, yet these same people cover the NFL and profit off its popularity.
And you follow and support the violence yourself. Interesting. The pundits only have jobs because we watch the sport. Double-edged sword there.

No. The Chiefs, and even the Chargers, would have something to say about that. Pretty hard to just ignore highly talented teams just because they’ve not made it to the super bowl recently... especially ones who have the league MVP who just threw 50 TDs.

yeah it's just...still impossible to pick against brady for me.
until he's tearing up during a presser? It's his conference.
same with that asshole wearing the 7 over the border in PA.
not to say the Mahonnes isn't gonna get it done, but he's gotta get through those final two bosses IMO.

If it's a no limit keeper league it can but only if the guy perennially becomes a top 3 QB.

The other positions just turn over so quickly, that if you could draft someone who is a mainstay at QB, over the course of 10+ years, you can find yourself at a nice long term advantage. Because you have a top player and you get to ignore spending draft capital on an important position for a really long time and it is likely that WR's and RB's continually cycle in with fantasy value. If the QB you take doesn't develop in to a top 3 player at QB, then yes, it makes a lot less sense.

Baker, I just see why you gamble on him. If you look at year 1 production and the QB landscape in 4-5 years, there's really only 3 clearcut guys (to me), who you'd feel comfortable thinking could be top 3-5 QB's.....Mahomes, Mayfield and Watson. Everyone else can be grouped in two buckets......either aging out and too old or just completely unknown. I think Luck bowing out only solidifies the value of those other 3 guys in dynasty.

There is an enormous gap between Therapist's just-missed-playoffs crew and the Chiefs right now.

Brady has sometimes fallen short, i.e. the Broncos beat him twice even with Manning being a corpse in one, and Stabbin' Ray's defense got him twice. There was a time where people thought that once Belichick had his camera taken away, he wouldn't be able to get it done.

NE just took a big blow on the OL...they can only build the offense around his Brady's quick release so much longer as his arm declines, especially with Gronk also gone.

I just feel the Pats are vulnerable this year( although it seems like i have felt that way for a few years now). I mean, Brady can fall off a cliff at any time. See Brett Favres last two seasons. No Gronk, to me thats pretty huge. Also seems like they are getting old as a team pretty fast. What always saves them though is the dreaded AFC East. Thats at least 5 wins right there. Been that way for almost 20 years. I mean one of these years it has to happen, right? Where things just go to complete crap for them?

The thing though.....is their coach, Bellycheck really is a master at gameplanning to hide weaknesses and punctuate strengths. So unless Brady trots on the field missing his right arm, Pats we be vying for a top 3 playoff spot.

Really irritating to say that, because we should be on year 26 (if I mathed that right) of our Bellycheck era. Not a lot, but it stings occasionally. Kinda like when soap gets in the hole

Dude you’re thinking emotionally

The Steelers haven’t made the super bowl since 2010. Since then they have made it to the AFC Championship game ONCE. They missed the playoffs three times in that span

It’s not his conference. And has never been.
