2019 Training Camp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Cavs website has some good coverage of Day 1 of training camp.
Here's a short summary. Garland and Nance were out, but supposedly minor problems and are day to day.
Beilein divided the squad into 3 groups: red, white, and green. Worked on fundamentals, including using a"Beilein Ball". That's a ball coach invented with a thick black stripes. Makes you aware of your hand placement for passes and shooting.
In general, everyone seemed enthusiastic as you would expect on the first day. John Henson really happy to be back.
During a scrimmage Clarkson took Kevin Porter to school trying to guard him.

25 wins seems like a bunch of stuff went wrong. The defense barely improved and Kevin Love sat out most games again while the rookies contributed nothing. There were more than 6 games that were pretty close that the young guys blew last year and would have won had Love been there.
25 wins means I have to watch 57 losses ..so yes there wouldn't be hardly any improvement at all.

Chucky McJumperson looks like lost some weight and in good running shape... Hope he plays well so he could be a good trade chip to a contending team...
I am sure you are referring to Clarkson..

While he gets a lot of shit as a ball hog, he is a pretty skilled player, and has improved every year. I do not think he fits on our team timeline, and obviously niether does the FO, but he will be a valuable trade piece for a team that needs a scoring guard off the bench. I thinks it's good for him to school guys like Porter, so they understand the bar in the NBA. It's not just Steph Curry that can break your ankles. You will have to bring your best effort every minute against even an average NBA guard..

I havent been this excited for a training camp since the first season with the big 3.

Promising rookies, glowing vets, returning players - everybody is calm and smiling wide, I can't help but get super hyped.

And most importantly highly intelligent, innovative and revealing interviews from our new coach. What a breath of fresh air after the few previous ones we had (except Blatt, he was great).

Like Lloyd wrote, our team has been through some tragedies this off-season, but we are right on the edge of beginning the season and it honestly feels like we are building something special.

1. I can't wait to see Larry Nance JR taking 267 3 pointers this year!

2. I wonder if Sexton and Garland will both be on the team by the end of the season. Feel like they may end up dealing Sexton with some expiring deals to add a better "fit" piece for Garland (who I think/hope ends up being front lie starter border line all star level talent).

3. Super bummed that the Belmont Bomber isn't healthy to start.

4. Have you ever seen a less stressed Kevin Love than 2019-2020 Kevin Love?

In all seriousness, he seems to be a good dude, with legit nba skills and he tries to play hard... Just questionable decision making and bbiq... That's why I hope he plays great and gets traded to a veteran contending team with a lot of smart player, thats what I think his best fit would be an off-the-bench instant scorer on a team with team mates to keep him on check when he gets out of control on the court...

I think the odds are pretty good. Delly and he will continue to build chemistry, and that could lead to a favorable trade for us. Having him play with a guy that shows he can work together instead of just totally freelance will go a long way.

Seems like they do drills and then they try to implement in scrimmage each practice. I don't know how the players feel about it, but that would be fun for me. I don't know if they will hold up all season doing that, I have no idea. Lue used to just have walk throughs all the time.

This guy is supposed to be a trouble maker? lol.

I don't see it. I see a good kid that wants to improve and wants to learn. His game might look like it's selfish, but that is probably because he was just better than everyone. I don't really see an issue with him playing the same game he played in college or highschool...he will do what coach wants him to do. He is here to work.

I'm a little surprised by how well he comes off and how well-spoken he is. He seems totally with it, open and honest about his issues, and seems pretty intelligent. I guess it's possible he has maturity issues, but he just turned 19. I sort of expected he would have more of Dion type of attitude where he would not acknowledge any weaknesses, which Kevin has, and just have tons of swag. He appears more humble than I expected.

He was really glowing in his praise of Koby at media day and we know he likes Gottleib. I think it might be true that he just needs some authority figures who he can trust and who care about him. That was his #1 takeaway with Koby. He just kept talking about how he genuinely wanted to help him and gave him lots of advice on how to make it to the NBA and how grateful he was. It shines a little light on how he was willing to take less on his rookie contract so he could be taken by the Cavs, a place he wanted to be, in the first round.

We have a great group of guys. They are all friends it seems

I'm hopeful.

I think when you look back at 2016, the influence of Richard and Channing bringing that team together cannot be underestimated. Guys that want to work and grow together can really help. yeah it doesn't make any of them into superstars, but it creates a culture where you can fight together.

Yes absolutely agree. Especially the impact on KLove, I'm so proud he's turning into the Channing/RJ type vet for our team.

Agree about KPJ as well. He oozes confidence but not in a bad way, could be he was just really guarded from past experiences. Sometimes all you need is some established guys opening up to you to show it's fine to trust. Really like the dynamics between him Garland, Sexton, Love etc.

I'm starting to fall for this team a little bit..
